NWR: very small update and an embarrassing moment (Updated 7/2 with brief explanation of the medical problem at bottom).

Sooooo, I had another visit with my cardiologist today (most of you know by now that I had to go see one). We discussed my situation and I have to get a second opinion from an 'electricity specialist,' a cardiologist who specializes in rhythm issues. Today I told the doctor that some of my worst episodes occur in the shower. He ordered me to go to a surgical supply store and get one of those benches that some elderly people have in their showers.

Scott and I went to the store and all the shower chairs were on a high shelf. I could not even look at them because I am such a mess that if I look up I get symptoms. So we asked the girl at the register. She then SHOUTED to the guy at the back of the store, 'THESE PEOPLE NEED HELP WITH THOSE PORTABLE TOILET SEAT THINGS.' Uuummmm, no, that is not what we need but thanks for shouting that out.

I should have listened to Scott. He wants to fly down to his parents condo in Florida and steal one of the benches from any random apartment in the complex. We can return it by the time the snowbirds get back.

Ok, so this was all not terribly funny. Bear with me, I have a heart condition and I need to find even small amounts of humor in it.

I'll give more of an update as soon as I digest the information. Good news is that there little to no chance that the baby is at risk at this time and it is likely to continue that way.

I am so sorry you have to deal with a heart condition during your pregnancy. My mom has one of those bench things. I can distract her while you take it.

Great avatar pic BTW!

Re: NWR: very small update and an embarrassing moment

Another small funny incident...when I was getting set up for the 10 day heart monitor, I had a phone appt. with the monitor company to get me started. I wore the monitor and the company and my Dr. got cell phone transmissions of my readings. Well, the lady from the company had a very odd voice and an odd choice of words for everything. I started laughing hysterically, and I tried to stifle it at first. There was something about sitting there on a Saturday night with a bunch of wires all over the place, while talking to a weird lady.

The lady was supposed to get me to relax so that she could get a good resting heart reading for a baseline. Well, I started to laugh even harder, so I was not relaxing. I didn't want to tell the lady that I was laughing at her voice. I told her that my dog was looking at me funny and making me laugh. I blamed innocent little Oscar. He was watching me but I am used to that.

On Monday I called the doctor's office and had to tell the nurse that I was laughing the whole time, so the baseline readings would not be accurate. That was a weird phone call to make. Because I was wearing the monitor 24/7, they got another baseline.

I think that the laughter that night was because I finally realized that I need to just let loose and laugh, and it was partially a nervous thing.

I got to take the monitor off early. After 2 days, they knew what the problem was and after 5 days they could confirm that there was nothing else.

For anyone interested in technology or medicine, look up Cardionet monitors. The concept is very new and so interesting.

Kerie - the incidents you recounted were indeed funny - but the greatest news of all is that the MDs have discovered what the problem is and have confirmed there are no other issues.

Well, sort of--they know what is happening but not exactly WHY. Further testing would be invasive and involve radiation. Treatment could either hurt the baby or lower my blood pressure too much. I might be better off right now if I had high or normal blood pressure but mine is low. We are wondering if the heart rhythm specialist knows of alternative tests or other medication. It is not known if this is something that is here to stay after the pregnancy, but if it is, I will have more options after the baby comes.
