NWR - Weekend Getaways w Gal Pals!

hola ya'll!

a few gal pals and i are itching for a weekend vaca. it's not only a gal pals' vaca it's also for a couple of birthdays. we're excited but haven't figured out a place. we do have some venues in mind but what is there to do while there...?

***NIX*** 1) Greenwich, Conn - if we go we could have dinner at Thomas Henkelmann but that's about it.

2) Boston

3) Wash D.C.

4) Borgata, A.C.

***NIX*** 5) Newport, Rhode Island

6) Philly

have any of you been to any of these places? if so, which? where did you stay? what did you do? nice and hip spas? any recommendations on anything to do while there? any recommendations on other locations? etx? TIA!

i live in CT

forget thomas henklemennn....go to L'escale and eat on the water and stay in a room there on the sound
if you go during the summer there is a shuttle right outside to a private island where you can lay out. you can also shop on Greenwich Ave

i love newport...you cant go wrong there either

i also love d.c. - stay in georgetown and eat at neyla's

you and i have the same taste with weekend trips

let me know if you need ideas or help in those 3 locations

I love Philly and Boston, but I'd actually rather do a mini-getaway to Manhattan & do the spa & nice restaurant thing! (We've done this for a few bachelorette parties and it's been a blast). However, I think the Borgata is a fabulous idea. I head down there every 2 months or so: great spa (make reservations ahead of time!), indoor pool, nice area to lay out outside, excellent new restaurants opening up sometime soon (Bobby Flay, Wolfgang Puck, and Michael Mina are all opening restaurants there), a bunch of fun bars (from dancing at Mixx, to live music at Gypsy, to just hanging, drinking Italian wine, and munching on delicious appetizers at Ombra!) And then some GAMBLING!!! Whether you're a table game player or hitting the penny or nickel slots, it's tons of fun

most of us live and work in the city so we're trying to get away from the hustle and bustle of nyc's busy life for the weekend. we still love the city for its shopping, dining, etx but would like to see another town for that action, too.

my friends and i spoke briefly and we're nixing Borgata. we don't gamble and we don't feel like hitting the party scene are our reasons to say the least. and with all the talking we had it looks like BOSTON, PHILLY, and DC are in the top running as of now.

For BOSTON, has anyone been to CLIO Restaurant, located in the Eliot Hotel? Stayed at Ritz-Carlton Boston, Marriott Copley Place, Eliot Hotel? if so, how was your stay? Any spa(s) you can recommend? anything i should look into?

PHILLY - Hyatt? Sofitel? or any hotel that you absolutely enjoyed in Philly and that is near the shops and restaurants? Any of you been to Fountain Restaurant located in the Four Seasons Hotel? Any restaurants you can recommend? things to do?

Borgata, baby! Their gym/indoor pool/spa/jacuzzis are AMAZING.

I believe you get access to the gym if you get a treatment (go for a massage!). Their jacuzzis are phenomenal! The rooms are GREAT! The MIXX is an amazing restaurant (sushi is awesome... same chef as Nobu). At night, the Mixx turns into a GREAT nightclub (best time I EVER had at a club!). They may have cool concerts when you go, too.

Now, I want to go!!!

sorry! I didn't see your post that you were nixing the Borgata! lol. I really DO love that place, though! Glad it's back in the running! . If you choose the Borgata and want to go to the Mixx, if it's the same as it was the last time I was there, there will be looooooong lines for the club. So, if a bunch of you are going, you can wait on the VIP line, which means you have to buy a bottle of something. But, it costs $20 each to get into the club on the regular long line. You can buy a bottle (whatever the cheapest one is... we paid $160 for champagne) and divide the cost among you (we were 4 people, so it was 40 each) and that covers getting in AND a VIP table! just a tip, if you end up going. BTW... I am by NO means a 'club' kind of girl, but I had a blast at the Mixx. I REALLY want to go now!

If you go to Philly, I HIGHLY recommend the Ritz!!! It is an amazing hotel..and I think the prices aren't THAT bad for a Ritz-Carlton. The lobby will take your breath away; it's fabulous for drinks and appetizers. It's right off Chestnut Street where there are tons of great restaurants. We love Rouge, which overlooks Rittenhouse Square. Four Seasons is nice, but it's more in the museum area rather than the bar/restaurant area of Rittenhouse/Chestnut Street. We did stop in at the Fountain for Champagne though (saw Jimmy Buffett there eating lunch There's also Le Bec Fin, Striped Bass, Brasserie Perrier in the Chestnut St. area.
Love Philly...definitely hit South Street for bar hopping and some pizza at Lorenzo's :)

well, I'm a little biased towards Boston... I went to college up there. It's a great city! Lots of fun places to hang out, great shopping, great museums (if you're a nerd like me), just a nice city overall.

If you go you should definitely check out Jake Ivory's - it's a piano bar, but it's way more fun than that sounds... check out their website: http://www.jakeivorys.com/
We had an night there during senior week when I was graduating, and it was awesome! SO much fun.

When ever we just want a get away not too far away my favorties have always been:

Lake George- upstate NY
Ocean City- Maryland
Atlantic City- Jersey, or even
The Poconos ( for groups shoney resorts)

But have fun where ever you go

there are tons of good restaurants and lounges in boston - a great city - i am biased i live in boston

there are a lot of great spas on newbury st - the ritz sits on the corner of newbury - i have een to daryll christopher

I lived in Boston for a few years and ever since moving back my friends and I have made an annual trip of going up there every summer. We stay at the Marriott Long Wharf. During the day we usually lounge around the Commons and do some shopping on Newbury. At night you can do dinner in the North End and there are also some great coffee shops.... or you can do what we do and hit up the bars afterwards (if you're into that!)! Have a great time!

interesting, i thought spire was great!! Ididnt do dinner there though, just drinks & snacks from the bar menu and dessert, and the dessert is SOO amazing.

I did notice that the bar menu was much better priced (as always) than the regular menu.
