DH was visiting his friend who just had a baby and she's going back to work soon. Her mom is going to take care of the baby 3 days a week and a 'nanny' is going to take care of him 2 days a week. isnt a nanny a full time, live-in babysitter? what im getting at is that i think it is a pretentious misuse of the word. obv i dont have anything better to wonder about in my life.

Re: NWR: whats your opinion on
i think people use it differently but to me 'nanny' doesnt have to be full-time but does mean more than babysitter, so someone who also cooks/cleans - nanny is more like maid plus babysitter in one i think?

i think of a nanny as someone who comes to watch the kids on a regular, somewhat full time basis (e.g., 9-5, but not necessarily over night). someone who is qualified to care for children as opposed to a babysitter which i think of as someone who watches kids after school - like a 15 year old's job.

A nanny isn't just a full-time (5 days a week) position IMO, but does care for children during day while parents are at work. I don't think its misusing, I have friends that only have a nanny 2-3 days a week and refer to her as a nanny.

I think a nanny is someone who comes on a very regular basis, and also takes care of other responsibilities---driving the kids, cleaning up the house after the children, laundry, dishes, etc.
