i've only taken amtrak once and that was about 15 years ago so i really do not remember a gd thing about it... who has been on it recently?? is it like a flight? do i have to get there early?? i'm taking it wednesday morning and would love a quick synopsis of it!!

I haven't taken it in a few years but from what I remember it wasn't too bad.
It's like any train, they can get crowded but there's usually enough room.
If you have a laptop, you can bring it since they have plugs and I think they might have internet access as well though not positive.

I actually take Amtrak somewhat often, for business when I have to go to Philly, Boston, or DC. Going to DC on Friday actually! If I have the time, I prefer the train to flying - no security lines, usually enough seats (I've never run into any problems) since you buy your tickets beforehand... I like the smooth ride, it's quiet, and the seats are comfy, there's a good amount of leg room too. They're pretty much on time too which is nice.

I want to take it to Chicago to visit my fam but I refuse. I heard soo many bad things about them crashing and derailing

It's been a couple of years since I've taken it but I remember it being just like most train rides...except, be sure to buy your ticket ahead of time. I'm the kind of person who likes to get there early...just to be safe I don't miss it or anything, but it's not like you have to be there 2 hours early to check in....like on a flight. Have fun

If you ordered your ticket online and have to pick it up at the window, you'll probably have to get there a little early in case there's a line.
And then you just wait for them to post the track number your train is arriving on...and join the mad rush to that gate.
The rest is pretty much like a flight. There are bathrooms and a cafe car (but it ***** and is super expensive...it's better to bring food with you).

I took it twice. Both going to VA. The first time me and mom went we sat in a regular seat and it was a longgg ride...so the second time my mom refused to sit in the seat and she paid extra to get a private room with beds and a TV(it was really nice, but $$$). I was like 14 or 15.
