I'm trying to plan a weekend wine tasting for FH & I (it will be a surprise). I already found a hotel to stay at for the night. We'll drive out Saturday morning; visit 4-5 vineyards crash for the night then relax sunday & drive back home. Does anyone have suggestions on which vineyards to go to near Cutchogue (sp). ALSO-any suggestions on where to eat dinner saturday night?? Don't want to spend too much $$ but still want a nice meal.
thanks!

Re: NWR-Wine Tasting
There are lots of wineries out that way-- all pretty good. Baiting Hollow Vineyard, Martha Clara, Roanoake etc.
Jedediah Hawkins Inn is really good. I dont know the cost-- I didnt pay attention b/c FH paid. Elbow Room in Jamesport is also good if you like steak

I agree! I once LOVED that place until the last two times I have went there. So disappointing!
On the other hand, I would suggest The Elbow room maybe? Check into Girogio's and see if they are doing dinner. There's not much out there on the North Fork other than Ma & Pa type places. ENJOY!

Re: NWR-Wine Tasting
I spend a lot of time on the east end, so get ready.
Breakfast, you HAVE TO go to
LOVE LANE KITCHEN (http://www.lovelanekitchen.com/) in Cutchogue. It's on Love Lane. Such a great place. They also do a great lunch, and dinner. It's definitely on the less pricey end for dinner, so if you want to save it for that, then go to...
THE CHEESE EMPORIUM in Greenport for breakfast.
Now, dinner. There are a lot of options for dinner. I'll get the most expensive option out of the way.
NORTH FORK TABLE & INN this place is pretty high end (former top nyc chef's) they do a very seasonal menu, and it's hard to get a reservation even on the off season, but i just wanted to throw that out there.
then there are 2 places in Greenport that are awesome, owned by the same people.
THE FRiSKY OYSTER http://www.thefriskyoyster.com/ and FRISKY OYSTER BAR http://www.friskybar.com/
these are the two really awesome hip places in the north fork. there is a total scene in the summer, but they are just so cool, and really fantastic food. the prices are nyc prices, but there's pretty slim pickings on the east end. i'd recommend calling and making reservations beforehand, as some places do close does between jan-march out there.
there is also an adorable cupcake shop Butta'Cake in greenport, on main street. also, don't miss out on getting a briermere pie in riverhead on the way home http://www.briermere.com/
also, my favorite vineyard is Rafael. so gorgeous to be there!

Re: NWR-Wine Tasting
My favorite wineries are Jason's Vineyard, Martha Clara, Pindar, The Old Field (furthest out), Laurel Lake (loooove the sparkling moscato), Shinn Estate, Sparkling Pointe is nice if you like sparkling but they only have 3 and they're a bit $$$. Do try to make it to at least one smaller place, they larger ones get pretty packed on the weekends and you really don't get the same experience. Places like Martha Clara and Pindar while they have good wines, they will just pour and walk away half the time without telling you much. It's much more fun to talk to the people and pick their brains about wine. Another good place to go is the Tasting Room, it's a store front that sells wines from smaller wineries that don't have their own tasting rooms. Here is a site that has all the wineries and their info Long Island Wine Country

Re: NWR-Wine Tasting
I really like Bedell, Osprey's Dominion, and Jamesport. Bedell and Jamesport both have outdoor areas and are very friendly.
I didn't like any of the wine at Duck Walk and there's one that was really unfriendly, maybe Macari, even though we had a reservation.

Castillo de Borghese has an awesome riesling and I love Pindar's dessert wine. For dinner, I like www.tweedsrestaurant.com on Main street riverhead...I like their buffalo and long island duck...they have a piano player on friday & saturday nights. Have fun!!!
