So I work in an office and I stayed and worked late this week a few times (we dont get paid overtime). My boss said I could have some comp time on a Friday since I helped out. I dont want to look like I'm taking advantage(Ive only been 3 mths) but I could really use the time today since I have family coming in from out of town. Do you think I should ask to leave a little earlier today or do you think I should wait? I'm such a baby when it comes to these things... TIA!

Re: NWR- Work question
Just ask him if you could use your comp time today because you have out of town relatives coming in. The worst he could say is no. Doesn't hurt to ask! Besides he said you could have comp time so I def. would take advantage of that!

With today's economy anything that makes you above and beyond is probably a good thing, so I would stay.

i would take a few hours off if you had to - if he didn't want you taking the time off, he wouldn't have given you the comp time!
maybe leave at 3 instead of 5 or something like that?

I worked 4 hours of overtime this week. Plus I never take lunch (not that that means anything because I'm sure a lot of people dont take lunch). Basically on fridays we get out at 4...and I was going to see if I could leave at 2 or 3....so 1 or 2 hours early tops.

i dont think that's a big deal. as long as you have everything done. its not like you are leaving at 1 and didn't get stuff done. as long as the work is done and you can take the time.. .GO FOR IT!

Just make sure you ask first. Usually the comp time you take is only about 1/2 the extra time you actually put in.
But asking first at least lets your boss know you are taking comp time and not flaky and just leaving. The worst your boss can say is 'no, it's not a good time.'

Very true - all I can do is ask. I really only want to take 1 or 2 hours tops and dont want to take advantage.

The fact that you even get comp time is incredible.
Makes working 12 hour days not so miserable

ITA. That's how I am right now. With the wedding approaching and the economy the way it is, I do everything in my power to be the best employee possible.
