I was supposed to go to a workshop this morning and knew yesterday that I was going to have a sub for the first 2 hours of the day. I made my plans and then ended up feeling sick, so I made plans for the entire day just in case I didn't go to work. I put the plans (in a folder with attendance and pull-out list) and ALL the stuff I needed for my lessons in my mail box (I have religious ed in my classroom 3 nights a week and they always make a mess and steal things so I don't leave anything on my desk). I wasn't sure if I was going to be out the whole day so I had my a.m. test in my folder, but my homework sheet & p.m. math test with the book & game under the folder. Well I just found out that the sub was asking the 5th grade teacher (my partner) for work to do with my class because I didn't leave enough (uhm yea right! Subs NEVER finish all my plans). Apparently she couldn't find my test because it wasn't in the folder! WHAT?! I left everything in my mail box in the teacher's lounge. If you read the plans and saw things were missing, wouldn't you have looked on your lunch break? I'm FUMING right now because it was such a waste of a day! I should've just gone in even though I was sick! UGH!

Re: NWR: Work Rant
Thank you!
I know! I'm so organized, but seriously? Just because it wasn't in the folder? Wouldn't you take all the mail from the teacher's mailbox to the classroom ANYWAY?! Just in case there was a notice or letter to go home with a student????

Aww I'm sure the principal would understand!! I used to be a sub and there were some subs at my school that would totally take it upon themselves to do whatever they wanted. I always tried to read ALL the plans. We were never supposed to go get the teacher's mail though, the office staff would always tell us anything important when we signed in or it would be in our sub folder. Sounds like they didn't know what they were supposed to do!

Re: NWR: Work Rant
I have met some fantastic subs in my life, but somehow I always end up with subs who can't follow directions either lol! I totally understand your pain, Jess. Every time I'm out sick, without fail the sub goes to the WRONG ROOM, forgets to fill out/have kids pass around my attendance forms, or my favorite, give out the wrong work.
Not only do I leave the copies with our department assist, but anytime I'm not planning to be sick, my FH brings everything with specific plans and notes but it gets completely messed up. I had one sub give an inclusion freshmen class a critical lens & regents review packet for my seniors....sighhhh.
Moral of my really long rambly story lol - I think principals understand that we can be 110% prepped for a day out and there are other factors involved! Don't stress

Re: NWR: Work Rant
I know, it just bothers me. FH looked at me while I was ranting and was like damn I hope I never piss you off, you're scary right now! I just get so frustrated because I worked so hard to get where I am (literally spent 4 years subbing because I couldn't find a job!) and this is the FIRST time I've been out sick and something gets messed up! My principal even told me to put everything in my mail box! That's why it was there. It annoys me the most because my 5th graders were supposed to take a math test, and now they have to study for it AGAIN. It's not a bad thing, but I know I have a few that get anxiety over tests, so this is horrible for them!

Re: NWR: Work Rant
It's never fun coming back after a sub was in! especially if they're not familiar with your school I as in an ICT class for 2 years and if 1 of us was absent and we would tell the principal NOT to give us a sub. It's like having a foreign kid added to the group! We'd spend more time explaining routines than doing what we need. so annoying!

Re: NWR: Work Rant
She left everything in my mail box and just wrote on the plans that she couldn't find thingas. I wrote to play a game 2nd period and she instead took them to the BATHROOM! 4th graders going on a bathroom break?! REALLY?! My kids said that she told them she didn't need to follow my plans exactly. Uhm, yes, you do. That's why I leave plans! UGH!
Other than just being annoying, everything was fine. My kids were telling me they missed me

I am a sub and I would of been thankful your plans. I just subbed today in a class that had NO PLANS what so ever. On top if it today was picture day and they had an event for Dr. Seuss birthday. I spent half my morning trying to figure out what time the class had everything. Glad everything worked out today.

I used to hate when I would sub and had no plans! It's HORRIBLE! That's why I'm like the OCD teacher that leaves super detailed plans. But apparently, non-certified subs don't need to follow the TEACHER'S plans.
