NWR: Work Vent

NWR: Work Vent

So I am fairly new at my job and so are these two other women. They seemed to have clicked right away and eat lunch together everyday. One of the girls asks me to eat lunch with her every single time the other one is out or unavailable for lunch. But when she is with the other girl...she just goes for lunch and ignores me. I find it to be so rude and its SO obvious that she does it. I don't even really care, but I hate that I feel like I am being used and I am like her second choice for lunch. I also don't understand why all 3 of us can't have lunch toghether...maybe the other girl just doesn't like me or something, I don't know.

So my question is...should I say something to the girl who asks me for lunch when the other isn't around. Like say why do you only want to have lunch with me when 'Amy' isn't around?

hmmm....instead of doing that how about suggesting one day that you should all get lunch together and see what happens....

absolutely say something...i would. thats my personality. I have been in your situation before. When that lady asks you to go ot lunch...laugh and say oh i see how it is...when so and so is out you ask me....

totally say something. thats so annoying.

I would definitely say something. i think it's rude and unnecessary. you see people you work with everyday and who wants to feel bad or uncomfortable

honeslty, this is why i like to work with and for men better- that stuff usually does not go on as much

ITA about working with men, they arent petty and ridiculous with these things -- I've worked with both and always find it easier to get along with men

I agree. I think it's best not to come out and say something like right away, instead, suggest to both of them or just the one who ask you, if the '3' of you can do lunch. And if at that point see how she or they respond. If she comes up with an excuse, then say something.

I too prefer working with men, you don't have to deal with this stuff at all.

You are both so right. One of the women is older than me (like 35-40ish) and she makes comments to me about how young I am all the time. On my first day she says...'HOW OLD ARE YOU??!' like really loud. It made me feel so uncomfortable. I feel like she is jealous of me and feels threatened by me. And I don't mean to sound conceited at all when I say this.

Yeah, kind of make a joke out of it but be serious. If you do that it may be a great way to eat with her and later ask how come she and the other woman never ask you to eat with 'them' It may kinda break the ice on broaching the topic.
