I know we've heard it and been through it all when it comes to work but I just need to vent. I'm tired of receiving more responsibility but no increase in compensation. I don't take initiative anymore because, whether I take minimal initiative or work my a$$ off, there's nowhere else to go and the only thing I can look forward to is my annual raise and bonus. It's a shame that, after you've hit the professional brick wall, you're stuck and you lack motivation. Unfortunately, looking for another job in my field wouldn't help because I took a New York City salary down to the suburbs in PA. Moving on would mean taking a pay cut. I'm currently in school switching career directions but it's taking forever and, until then, I have no motivation in my current career and I just can't bring myself to care. I don't necessarily need advice, but if you have any words of wisdom to help get me out of this funk, I'd greatly appreciate them now more than ever!
Thanks for reading!

Re: NWR: work vent
Well sometimes I love my job and sometimes I hate it but there are a few things that make me love and keep it (and these prob don't apply to you) but in general right now I just THANK GOD I have a job i job in this economy when a lot of folks have lost or will be losing them in the next year, and just know that you are doing the right thing in being active to switch careers b/c so many people just think about it and don't do it - so be proud you are doing it - and in the meantime just think - well I'm getting paid and b/c I know I'm leaving I don't have to care so much about advancement. . b/c it will be EASIER to leave

I totally feel you. I always feel like it doesn't really matter if I work my butt off, or if I do the bare minimum, I am still going to be making the same salary. But, I figure you might as well show everyone at work that you are worth more than they pay you, even if they don't pay you. You never know, it might pay off eventually.
Best of luck!!

I can kind of relate to you right now. I work my butt off and manage a whole office and it's compliance which is a b*tch. I haven't gotten a good raise since 07. Blargh. I have been getting those small percentage ones because the company is so frugal. I look forward to the bonuses and focus on the positive things. I do know if I left my company right now, I would be at risk- especially in the insurance business and all the major firms having trouble. So, I plan to stick with it and hope for the best!
