NWR: Work Vent...really long.
I need a new job.
Months ago the company I work for lost all of their salespeople in a conspiricy/mutiany type situation where the eight girls we had started their own company with some random dude and stole our entire customer base. On memorial day 2006 there was a walk-out and they never came back, all save for one girl who came to our office on LI (the other office was in the NYC area). For months we had ONE salesperson and basically everyone in the office spent their time sorting thru all the bullsh!t that the other girls had left behind trying to find evidence for the upcoming court case against these girls. So basically we were doing the job that a lawyer or a lawyers assistant should have been doing, and that's all fine and good because we had no work and I didn't want to be layed off. Fast foward a few months we started to get sales people but not normal people, scum-of-the-earth type people. Stupid people with no brains who we hired because my boss is in his 80's and only uses sales tactics from the 1960's so we need people who are followers who will not question the fact the my boss 'has been in the business for 40 years' and 'knows what he's talking about' and according to him 'no one uses the internet'. One by one they all were fired due to lack of sales which is not suprising since our prices are insane and the tactics my boss uses are out-of-date and what would be considered rude by todays standards. We are a middle-man type business that is most definetly becoming obsolete. Here is a part of a sample of a pitch given to new sales people : 'Relax Mrs. Jones and just take a package'. My boss refuses to listen to reason and refuses to believe that his knowledge has become obsolete. We just got a website about 6 weeks ago when I had suggested to him YEARS ago that we needed one and it's only pictures of merchandise, you still have to call to place an order. Oh, did I mention that I've been here SIX years? Fast foward to now and the one remaining sales person from the other office must have some sort of brain damage because she is the biggest f-ing moron I have ever met. She tells me she gave me things, yells at me when I say I don't have it and then acts like nothing happens when she realizes that she DIDN'T give it to me. My bosses son (the VicePres) will do nothing because he is afraid of his father and just does not want to deal with problems in general so he brushes everything off. I get cut off at the knees if I have an idea that I think might be benificial and it's not presented in such a way where it would seem like my bosses idea. I have actually been told by his son that if I want something done, that I have to make him think it's his idea. The person who used to be in my department was laid off and now that things are picking up (if you'd even call failing slowly 'picking up') and I am doing work for three people with no extra pay which I can tell you is FAR below average (i could tell you but i am beyond embarassed that my brain is going to waste for this little money). And to top it off I'm not a stupid person, I had trouble finding myself after high school and got this job to tide me over until I figured out what to do with my life and now I'm STILL HERE and desperately wanting to go back to school to put my smarts to good use. I'm stressed, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that I do MORE work then anyone I work with. We have an office manager but for some reason I'M the one people come to because she knows nothing. I'm a purchasing agent who can't make up selling prices because the old man MUST do it, regardless if I have to wait a week (since they are in court all the time) and we loose the sale. No one cares. We lost a multi-thousand dollar order because I went on vacation and wrote a note that some past due invoices needed to be paid or else merchandise would be held up, they got the note but nothing was ever done and the order was cancelled and I'M the one who has the explain to the sales people why things get f-ed up. My bosses reaction: 'Oh well'. The current situation causes me to think that they may close once the case is finished but another part of me knows they will keep going until my boss has no money left. I know this because one Christmas we got a lecture about how this company his 'his baby' and 'you better not fock with my baby' and 'we'll never close'...WHILE HE WAS HANDING OUT CHRISTMAS BONUSES!!! Yeah, Merry Christmas to you too as$hole, I'll take my $50 'bonus' and fill my gas tank. My boss smokes in the office and when the Department of Labor came to inspect, him and his son covered everything up and we passed the inspection and he continues to smoke in the office. When you have a meeting with him he smokes, I've said something to his son and he told me it's his office and there's nothing that can be done and obviously calling the Dept of Labor doesn't work. This man is INSUFFERABLE. He yells for no reason, forgets EVERYTHING because he's getting senile, asks you to do something then 10 minutes later asks you why you are doing what you are doing, tells us we are not allowed to leave our desks and constantly lecutres us about how women are the better sex because we (and I quote) 'SPREAD OUR LEGS TO HAVE CHILDREN' and we're also better 'BECAUSE WE HAVE BREASTS'. A former salesperson had called the cops for sexual harassment but there was no proof and my boss and his son denied everything. Our hiring practices are illegal since we throw out any resumes and applications from men and smarter people never make it in the sales department because they see thru his bullsh!t and wind up quitting within the first week. So here i am doing the work of three people whist dealing with morons and i can't take it anymore. I'm supposed to give anything I can't handle to my bosses wife but everytime I give her stuff it sits around for three weeks and I get crap for it. When I tell my boss (the son) what the deal is he just says 'well shes busy'....how is she so busy if she's NEVER HERE?? She comes in and sits online and I get that shes the bosses wife but don't tell me to give her stuff when it never gets done. I plan on leaving here soon and before I got engaged I was leaving even sooner but as some of you may know my FH lost his job in June and since I've been here for six years I thought it would be a good idea to stay until the wedding so just in case we need a loan to pay off the rest of the wedding at least one of us would have steady employment. I can't take it anymore tho. I'm stressed all the time, I have nightmares about coming here. I used to really enjoy my job but I don't anymore. I want to do a normal amount of work for a normal amount of money and not have to deal with the senile old man b!tching at me for no reason. I could write a book about the f-ed up things he does and says....
I don't know what to do and I feel I may have another g-ddamn mental breakdown if I don't get out of here soon.
