Original post by littlepixie12

Okay, ladies I thought I would give this a try and signed up for the free online trial. so maybe im missing something here.. they calculated my daily points to be 18 points a day... and I always go over, and Im trying so hard to stay within those points!

Does anyone know how they calculate those points to come up wtih your daily points number?

Yup, I've been a leader just over a year now. I lost 46 pounds 2 years ago. I'm also 4'11', so every pound shows on me too.

Your menu looks great. But remember to switch things up. You don't want to get bored with your meals. My only comments are don't forget your 2 milk and 2 oil servings each day. Also, do you use your activity points from exercising? What about your weekly 35 during the week for treats? Make sure you're not depriving yourself of your favorites.

How so you know how many pts each food is?

I can't say if I've been using the activity points earned or the 35 weekly points because I honestly haven't been good about counting recently...but when I was counting, I'd definitely use the 35 points...

I need to start counting again. I have been good about writing my food down though, which sounds silly like...okay so just count too, but I hadn't recently..

also eat foods that make u pooop..

poop = weight loss.

I totally agree! Keeping the system 'clear' makes the scale happy and also = flat stomach! I have 3 fiber chews a day to supplement and I find it really really helps. Plus they're a kind of a snack and fill me up for awhile.

How so you know how many pts each food is?

c = # of calories
f = # fat grams
r = fiber grams and that means that you subtract the

So basically, divide the number of calories by 50
Divide number of fat grams by 9
Add these up.
Then subtract the number of fiber grams divided by 5 (up to 4 grams of fiber. So if it has 5 grams of fiber, you still only get credit for 4).

That's how many points.

You are awesome, thanks!! I was just about to ask what that formula meant and then you explained!!

Re: NWR: WW question

I set up a food diary in Excel and calculate the points that way using formulas. I was paying the WW site to use that food diary and the points value dictionary but I figured I could save the money and spend it on smoothies! You can find out the nutritional value of almost anything using a site like www.calorieking.com - even fast food!

Just to also suggest - Dotti's Weight Loss Zone is a great website! My coworker and I use it a lot.

I would just be careful with that site. It tends to have a lot of outdated and inaccurate information. Best bet is to use the nutritional label if you have it or the actual company's (food, restaurant, whatever) website.

Oh I'm so sorry! I didn't know you wer 4'10!! Totally different. I'm 5'0 (probably even 4'11 and 3/4'')...for some reason I thought you were saying you're like 5'5.

So...I honestly have been AWFUL with counting because I CANT seem to just eat 18 points! And I NEVER eat fast food, greasy food, all things that are obvious to take out..ugh,.it's so annoying being short. Like you said - every lb extra is so much more obvious.

Here is a sample day of when I'm focused:
1. Breakfast: 3 egg whites = 1.5 points
with an apple = 1 point
with coffee and 2 Tbsp 1/2 and 1/2 = 1

Or... Quaker instant oatmeal (good to have a carb like that in the morning) = 2 points
Total Breakfast: 3.5 points

2. Lunch: Whole Wheat (small) pita = 3 points
Dr. Praeger's california veggie burger = 1pt
veggies and fat free dressing in it = 0-1pt
Total Lunch: 5 points

3. Various options for Snacks: Tall Skim Latte (starbucks) = 2 points
1 Wedge Laughing Cow Light Swiss spreadable cheese w/ 5 Carr's table water crackers = 2 points total.
Light n' Fit Yogurt: 2 points
Veggie sticks = 0 points
Total Snack:4 points (usually would have 2 2-point snacks throughout the day)

4. Dinners: (I have a ton of WW recipes printed in a binder in my kitchen.)
Chinese Take-out of Steamed Vegetable, Steamed chicken with black bean sauce (no rice) = 6 points
Oven-baked Tilapia or catfish with light sauce and steamed veggies = 4-5 points, depending on what I eat.
or.. 3oz Roasted Pork Tenderloin (trimmed before cooking - it's very lean surprisingly) = 4 points, with a 2 point side dish..

Total for day: 18-19 points

So apparently I can make a list...but why won't I just do it?!

Omg.. so everything you just wrote I do! and still over! I just dont understand I think I may be over-adding because I dont know the exact meaurements of things being put stuff (like milk in my coffee i doubt I use like 1/3 of a cup but i use that measurement just to be sure.. so that alone is like 1point.. UGH! How can I be more accurate

WOW! congrats! What are activity points? I joined online and I think I missed all this in an in-person meeting.. also, when I cook dinner I usually will use 2 tbspn of canola oil, does that count as my oil intake per day?

1/3 cup for coffee??!! That's crazy! It's probably more like 2 tablespoons. It definitely sounds like you're over counting. Maybe you should buy an inexpensive scale and start measuring more and that might help you get more out of the food you're eating.

I buy FiberChoice sugar free. I get them in BJs cheaper but here's a link for walgreens at least to see what they look like. I know they sell them in Wal-mart too.

They're not TOO bad. I kind of like them. They do have some sweetness to them. If you eat one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one at night, it'd be okay. And make sure you drink plenty of water if you start upping your fiber.

You earn activity points when you exercise. These points can then be used to eat more during the day. You mention you use 2 TBSP of oil each day. That's like 12 points right there! The requirement is only 2 TEASPOONS which is only 2 points. But yes, that would count. Definitely start weighing and measuring your portions, and since you're an online member, you can read up everything online.

Oh and you have FM
