After the Aunt Flo post I remembered that for a bunch of reasons my gyno wants me to switch from Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo to Yaz BC pill.
Is anyone on Yaz? If so, how is it.......pros, cons, etc.
TIA for any feedback!

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
I remember SarahRadio5 posting about having awful headaches with Yaz- I bet you'll find something if you do a search!
I'm on Yasmin (the older versin of Yaz- not sure what the difference is) and I LOVE it. Ortho tri cyclen made me an emotional nutcase- like on PMS 24/7. And my skin was in terrible shape! Yasmin returned me to normal- or should I say better! My periods are awesome on Yasmin- soooo short and painless!

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
I agree.. I was on Orth tri cycline then on Yasmine and now I am on Yaz. I have cycle based migraines so Yaz is better for me because I only get my period for about 3 days!!!! It's awesome!!! The difference between Yaz and Yasmine is that Yaz has 24 active pills and Yasmine only has 21.

Great post!!! , been thinking about BC because I don't want any surprises between now and Oct. But like many of you girls said: I get to be an emotional basket case on hormones. Not that I'm not like that every two-three weeks anyway!

!
I had the same problem. My Dr said the headaches associated with Yaz (and Yasmin) are due to dehydration. Yaz has something called 'DRSP' in it which is basically a low grade diuretic (water pill.) That's why you don't gain weight BUT if you don't drink tons of water, you will get terrible, hangover like headaches.

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
I'm on YAZ but I just started it this month. So far no problemos! I was on Loestrin and I experienced a lot of side effects including no libido, feeling naseous, and just blah over all. Plus I was extremely emotional (poor FH) and had HORRIBLE cramps. I went on BC to control the cramps and Loestrin didn't help at all. Hopefully the YAZ will be better, but Aunt Flo hasn't come to town yet, so we'll see.
I have a question though. I just started BC in November for the first time and I had a regular period and then a week and a half later I had my period again but lighter and spottier. I think that's what is referred to as break-through bleeding? Anyway, since then I haven't had my period yet. Is it normal to skip a period when starting BC??

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
I hope Yaz is good.
I'm midway thru my ortho tri cyclen pack now, so I have to wait to finish it before I start Yaz. I've had so many problems with ortho that I'm desperate!
Thanks for all the info ladies!

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
So here's the thing with BC pills... Everyone reacts differently to diff pills so unfortunately there's really no way to know until you try it If there was one pill that gave everyone issues, no one would use it and it prob wouldn't even be on the market, so everyone's gonna have diff experiences
One quest though... how long after taking a new pill did u notice side effects (emotional, physical, wt gain...)

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
BCP are a scary thing. They have turned my life upside down since I was 18. I have never been the same since starting them and have a feeling they triggered an underlying brain chemical issue which gave me the effect of bi-polar disorder. I have been on mental meds for over 8 years now as a result of that.
I have taken so many different pills that I can't remember them all - Ortho Tri Cyclen made me a psycho nut case with huge boobs and an extra 10 pounds. Loestrin turned me into a sexless zombie.
now, after nearly 7 years of NO bcp I had to start again because of severe ovulation pain AND intense, monster making PMS. I am taking Yasmine and I LOVE IT! Best BCP ever. No weight gain, and 3-4 day periods that are nearly painless (I get a smidge crampy on the first day - 3 advil and poof no more cramps!) Prior to taking the pill I was taking 6-8 advil every 4 hours, using thermo care pads and sleeping for HOURS.
As another post said - every woman responds differently to each pill. Just be aware of how your body feels and anything out of the ordinary should be reported to your gyno. It's amazing how that little tiny pill can just turn you upside down.
good luck!

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
is it normal to skip a period when starting BC? I had my regular period begin on Dec 11th and then a week and a half later had my breakthrough bleeding. I haven't gotten my period since then and I'm thinking I should have it right now. (I basically had 2 periods in Dec.) This is my first experience with BC. please help?

It can take your body 2 or 3 months to adjust. Breakthourgh bleeding is very common.

I would really call your Dr. with this question. i've been on the pill for years & never skipped a period, but everyone is different. check with your dr & see what they say, that way you have no worries.

Re: NWR: Yaz BC pill
I'm on yaz and have been for awhile. I will warn you that for the first 3 months I spotted EVERY day! It was horrible and it was the first time I ever spotted so I thought something was wrong with me.

OMG You poor thing!!! What an ordeal! I feel bad for women who's bodies can't take the pill- one of my good friends has this problem. I keep telling her to try Yasmin but she really thinks it won't make a difference. Maybe I'll tell her your story to encourage her! I'm so glad Yasmin works for so many people- I agree about ortho-tri - I was sooo psycho on that pill!!!
