They don't really do this anymore, I think... but I did see a woman on the subway a few weeks ago who had a funky looking foot that curled under like that... It was only one foot though.

I think it’s calling binding more than wrapping…and I’m like 80% positive it doesn’t occur anymore, which is why the woman modeling it is so old.

I have seen and heard this before. The Chinese believe you are pretty if you have small feet

Well, from what I remember from history classes, it was kind of a double edged sword. They did find the small foot attractive (like some cultures find lip plates attractive) but it only made the woman more dependent and less able to move around freely.

I have a pertruding bone on my foot and I dont want to get surgery, I wonder if bonding it or just wrapping it would make it straight???

Um, I don’t think so. From what I remember (again, years ago!), the bone was broken in the foot when the girl was a baby, and then wrapped so it grew that way.

yeah its called binding and i remember learning about this in school and OMG its horrible...from a very young age they start breaking the girls foot and all this other stuff, it is crazy but back then the men would pick a wife by this, life if her feet weren't binded then the parents would think they wouldn't find a husband

Yeah, it was a big thing with showing your class. For instance, a peasant class woman couldn’t have this done to her because she would have be in the fields working. If you had your feet binded, it pretty much meant you had a life of luxury and didn’t work. Same reason that being plump and pale was so popular in Europe for a while—it meant you weren’t in the fields working (hence not getting any color) and had more than enough food! Oh, how I long for the days where I was in vogue, lol.

its crazy bc it was outlawed in 1911, you would think it was even alot earlier than that
