NWR...a health problem. I need feedback please.

NWR...a health problem. I need feedback please.

Yesterday morning, while doing my morning routine to get ready for work, I double over in pain, so much that I was lying on the floor incopasitated (sp?) for 10 minutes. The throbbing on my lower right abdomen that had been present for the previous 4 days exploded with pain that I have never felt before.

So Gary took me to the hospital where, after a sonogram and blood tests, I find out that I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured. OUCH! There wasn't much the doctors could so they loaded me up with Anaprox and sent me home.

I was not able to keep any food down all day. And on top of that I had a terrible toothache that made it very painful to eat anyway. So I stayed home all day suffering, but still feeling a little better.

I spoke to my doctor and we discussed removing my right side ovary. It has given me nothing but problems and although I do not want to remove it, I may need to, for my own physical comfort and well-being. I have an appointment with him tomorrow at noon.

Today I am at work, in mild, but increasing pain and discomfort.I think I am going to go home cause I just cannot do anything with out feeling as if I am going to pass out.

Has anyone here ever had an overy removed, or know someone who has? I would like any feedback if you have any.

I'm sure this isn't going to be too helpful but it is someone's experience. Our best man's wife has had ongoing ovarian cysts for years - some that ruptured & some that were disolved via medicine. Her doctor recomended she remove the one ovary which was giving her the majority of the problems. After her surgery everything seemed fine but then the cysts became more frequent with the remaining ovary.

She later had a different surgical procedure which has helped to decrease the frequency & intensity of the pain but nothing has made them go away. I don't know if this is something you need to consider but she also took certain extra measures to ensure their chances for having kids even if it wasn't through natual means. I wish you all the best in this difficult decision.

A friend of mine had to have an ovary removed. She had a very large cyst on her ovary, when they went in to remove the cyst, they realized that it had grown too large and they needed to remove her ovary.

She controls her cysts by taking the pill. She is very worried about having children in the future because she is afraid the cysts will come back if she goes off the pill.

Supposedly, if you have one ovary removed the remaining ovary releases an egg a month so yoiur chances of getting pregnant are still pretty good.

I'm not sure if this is helpful, but it is the only knowledge of cysts that I have. Good Luck today.

I have ovarian cysts and am on the pill to control them. To my knowledge I have not had one rupture. Though from what you have described, it would not surprise me if I did and did not know about it.

I would try to get a second opinion before going through major surgery. A salpingo-oophrectomy (this is what I get from temping a month at a medical malpractice firm) is not the worst procedure in the world but by no means is it the easiest.

First off MANY HUGS
You MUST feel better! My cousin has cysts and she controlls them with the pill. If the only option left is to take out your ovary then I guess that's what you have to do no? I would talk to your doctor about the other possibilities before letting them take out your ovary. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Sorry to hear about the pain you're in!!

I have 2 friends with cystic ovaries....and both have been in the pain you described. Luckily neither one had to have ovaries removed, but both had to be on the pill. One of my friends went off the pill to try and get pregnant, and she did within 6 months!! She is now back on the pill (the baby is a year and a half).

fashion hag-
I have a good friend who had an ovary removed a few years ago and she is pregnant now! Don't get too worked up because that is a recipe for disaster. It's true that your remaining overy will pick up the slack and you will still get your period every month and so on. This girl who is pregnant actually had to have emergency surgery because some scar tissue from the surgery wrapped around her intestines, and less than a year later she is pregnant. Don't let the surgery part scare you either-crazy things happen sometimes.

I know someone who had an ovary removed.

It was weird, she was trying to conceive, and couldn't. The doctor's removed one ovary because it was problematic and they thought it was effecting her ability to conceive. Afterward, she got pregnant right away and is now a mommy of 3!

I know several people with one removed, and it is a long recovery (2 months) but worth it I hear.

Let us know what you decide!

Thanks for the support ladies. I too was trying to regulate my cysts with the pill, but that didn't work. I was the one who suggested to the doctor about the removing of the ovary. He is hesitant, but thinks it MAY solve my problems. I have had numerous cysts and a cancerous tumor on that right ovary. It has been the bain (sp?) of my existence.

I will talk to my doctor tomorrow about other alternatives.

I feel for you!!!!

I had an overy removed several years ago, and I have no regrets. I was in constant pain from cyst developing. Birth control pills were not helping... I was tired of going to the gyn all the time for sonograms...

I do recommend a second opinion if you are having doubts... However, I feel as though I made the right decision and I haven't had problems since!

i have had both removed due to ovarian cysts - it is an absolutely horrid pain and it wont get any better unfortunately till you have it removed - i am really amazed they sent you home after a rupture -
they really shouldn't have .
you need to talk to your gyn asap and tell him / her you had a ruptured cyst - when i had my first cyst i went into the er ( after walking around in pain for almost a week like an idiot) with stomach pain and they rushed me to surgury - afterwards i found out i just missed having it rupture
after the second set 3 years later the cysts had wrapped around a blood vessel and well i had to have alot of surgery
i am not going to go into alot of detail ( cause i am sure most folks dont want to read this ) but if you need to talk fm me

I had massive cysts on one of my ovaries and a large amount of small ones on my other. They removed the two grapefruit sized ones and just barely saved the ovary. The pill helped the others some, but the shot worked the best... Of course after 5 years I am discovering completely different problems with the shot but they are tolerable and fixable. Much better than cysts. Ask about the different types of cysts and options that go with them... Supposedly I had two different kinds. Good luck!

you need to get a second opinion before you do anything. surgery should be the last resort, after the second or even third opinion. you are dealing with your reproductive system and if you do not have kids yet?? get a second opinion.

Definately get a second opinion.. JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE.. you'll be absolutely sure then.. and I have polycystic ovaries, but (knock on wood) i haven't had any rupture. or pain for that matter.. I hope you get well, and GOOD LUCK.. Thats a hard decision, but you have to remember your health is very important, not only for yourself now, but your to be husband and family.. GL
