with no backup? Yes, I know what some of you are going to say but I feel like right now, places actually want to hire people who are unemployed, especially office type jobs, so they can start right away. My mother wasn't working for I can't tell you how long. She was getting interview, after interview and got a job within about 2 months of really looking. Me, I'm getting nothing. I feel like life is too short. Everyone that knows me is at their wits end hearing me complain about going to a place I hate so much..and it's been years..

Re: NWR..Anyone quit a job
Yes... I was getting laid off, but my boss was a psycho and verbally abused his own niece right in front of me... (among many other things) so i just walked out... if i had that moment back i wouldnt have done it... 6 months without unemployment is really really really difficult...

I'm sure it's a crappy job and you're miserable there, but stick it out. If you really hate this place so much, tell any interviews that you go on that you can start tomorrow and screw burning bridges, just quit and call it a day at your current job. If you quit, you won't be able to collect unemployment and who knows how long you'll be out of work, wishing you still had that crappy job. Honestly, only you can be the judge as to whether or not you are financially stable enough to quit work without a back-up. I know I'm not and I won't. I'll cling to this miserable place with my fingernails for nothing but the paycheck. Jericho Terrace needs their money! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you find something new before you get pushed to the point where you quit the current job.

Re: NWR..Anyone quit a job
yes, i have. but again i was fortunate enough to not have many bills in order to do this (for instance, living at home w/ no rent). I was in a miserable job where i was traveling all the time and working 12 hour days at the least with a terrible boss. At one point i just couldn't take it anymore and I gave my resignation. So again it really depends on the situation you are in. I wish you the best of luck!!

Not since 1997... but like Jenn I didn't need unemployment, so it didn't matter to me.
I'd never do the same thing now. HR still wants to know you're reliable and quitting a job without a backup is considered bad form. Put your resume out there while you're working. Just stick it out...

Re: NWR..Anyone quit a job
YUP and even though at times I worried that it was the wrong thing to do, I am so happy that I did! However, I did not necessarily 'need' that job because I had a business and FH wanted help running his. We had just combined bank accounts also and knew we could survive comfortably with or without my salary.
Only you know what is best for you.

if you think like that you should just try telling a potential job that you are unemployed now (even though you have one) and see it what your thinking works. at least youll still have an income and you can see if it works
