i hear ya! office life really stinks. i feel like a prisoner. another thing you could do perhaps is to contact one of the admissions offices and ask if any alumni would be willing to chat with you.

i dont come from a family of cooks, but everytime i cook/bake-i rather bake, i have so much fun and enjoy the outcome!

Re: NWR:Culinary School
Can you, through your own connections or networking, or through contacts the school provides, shadow a pastry chef for a week or even a day? It will also depend where you want to work--restaurant, bakery, private caterer, or institution. That way you'll have a better picture of the real-life aspects of the job, and you may be able to get a candid response on what schools are best suited for the position as well. Good luck!

It takes alot of dedication to work in those conditions and hours. Why don't you take a course at first before enrolling in an entire program.

Re: NWR:Culinary School
My sister's friend is in culinary school and she loves it! But, two of my uncles and two of my cousins are chefs and they work RIDICULOUS hours. Like 11AM to at least 11PM. They didn't go to culinary school, kinda fell into the business. Rarely get days off and I know more than one of them have had family issues because they are never around...

Re: NWR:Culinary School
FH went to the Art Institute of NY for culinary. He didnt like the school very much, but like the instuctors.
It is very hard to find a job! He has been laid of 3 times since graduating. Thankfully he's doing good now at his job (for 10 months) but its been a long road. Good luck!

Re: NWR:Culinary School
My FH went and was a chef for years, but is now a diagnostic ultrasound tech. He would recommend it highly, he loved it. He went in Baltimore though.
Now, he wants to be on 'Hell's Kitchen' . . . . hahaha.
