I live in Lindenhurst and work in Manorville. On a normal (non bad weather day) I leave my house at like 6:05 to get to work. Bad weather usually doubles my commute. Every school district by me was closed and I'm waiting for a phone call bc the east end I dont think was as bad. 5am, 515, 530, not until 5:45 did I get a phone call. By that time I was fully dressed hair makeup and even cleared off my car and ready to go to work. Luckily I couldnt get out my driveway I wouldve left already....And we aren't even allowed to call in past 5:45. So if they didnt cancel I wouldnt have even been able to call in bc I couldnt get out of my driveway. I know im not the only teacher that lives far, they really need to let us know earlier if school is closed.
sorry long vent!!!

i think you have a right to be upset. i mean, what if you were on the road already - then you would've put in all that effort and put yourself in danger for nothing. sorry but i'm glad you dont have to be in

Its not good. NYC does this all the time and then the majority of teachers call out because they live far and then dont risk going to work. I understand why they do it but it's still crazy.

That does suck. They didnt call us until 6am either. I called the bus company and found out we were closed so I could go back to sleep b/c I was already up with FH when bloomberg closed schools for him.
