NWR....do you get emotionally attached...

NWR....do you get emotionally attached...

to items? Quick background. I was in a bad car accident last week (was sore, but doing much better now) and I dropped my car off to be fixed on Friday. Well, yesterday the body shop called DH and told him they will most likely total my car. I am surprisingly really emotional about it! The car was the first big thing DH and I bought together (8 years ago). I learned to drive on this car. I kind of imagined driving our kids around in it.

DH doesn't understand why i am getting so worked up over it. Does anyone else feel this way about an object?

OR...am I just a total spazz?

Aww Thanks!

I totally feel like I am betraying her (yes, her...and I named her as well...Betty Blue). I feel bad that she is sitting in a shop awaiting her fate! Its only body damage on the car. Everything else is perfect on her. boooooo!

I get emotionally attached to EVERYTHING...
I had to throw out such STUPID things when I moved out of my parents house.. I cried over everything..

like christmas cards from students (from like 1998)... yea
point and laugh.

and cars.. when DH got rid of his civic and got an accord.. i didn't know until he showed up to my parents house to pick me up... i was LIVID!!!
i never got to say goodbye to the car.. we had a lot of memories in that car... and he didn't even discuss it with me, just woke up, went to honda with his father and said 'i want something else'.
(mind you, this is about 5 years ago.. maybe even 6 years)

ahem.. I have a stuffed dog named spot that I got when I was 8. Everyone joked that I was so attached to him that I was going to bring him on my honeymoon when I grew up.

That I did lol.

DH thinks I'm crazy lol I spot! lol

Hell yeah I do!

Glad you're feeling better.

I get attached to certain things. I still have the pair of Converse I wore to my first Pearl Jam show. I will not ever get rid of those. I also still have my first Converse, ever.

I save every concert tee I've ever bought. I have them going back more than 15 years. Some of them I still wear. Cranberries tour of 1994, anyone?

They stink. Thank god we have a garage to keep them in.

I'm attached to my Littlefoot stuffed animal I've had since I was 3.

It's beat to crap, but I refuse to throw it out. FH thinks it's crazy and his mother tried to throw it out on me when she was at my apt and wasn't home, Fh stopped her because he knew I'd kill HIM for not stopping her.

I was so upset. I have it hidden now.

I have to hide mine when certain friends come over b/c they tend to abuse him lol.

(btw, it's sick that I speak about him like he's a real dog)

yeah, I was attached to our car that we had to trade in, had it for 8 years, but the AC kept going out every year :(

I also had a bracelet that DH had given me that wound up falling off in the city, didnt realize it till I got home. DH did not understand why I was hysterically crying, and why I still try to find another like it (a year later)

Re: NWR....do you get emotionally attached...

I have no emotional attachment to anything with the exception of the obvious, i.e. engagement ring, any items from my grandmother, etc. DH has an attachment to EVERYTHING. Ask my why we have to keep bowliong scores from when he was in high school? A trophy from the track team in 1993. Really? We have a 1 bedroom apartment and he brought every childhood trinket. He is turning into a hoarder due to emotions and I would through everything out if I could.
