Aww good for him!!!!
FH took their test and passed all 6 parts. They called him for an interview. From what we are hearing though he has to start out at the bottom of the totum pole even though he has been an electrician for over 10 years am I correct? Con Ed or Keyspan is his 'dream' job but the pay cut is soooo unbelievable in the beginning.. Even though he has experience it doesnt matter??

Re: NWR..Does anyone know anyone..
This is from my dad - sorry about the caps - the program he uses at work - he has to type in caps...
ACCORDING TO OUR UNION BOOK AN ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN STARTS OF AT $20.45 AN HOUR AS OF 6/24/7 OR $19.81 6/24/06 AT 'X' SCHEDULE WHICH MEANS ANY HOURS 12-8 8-4 4-12 AM OR PM
WE REALLY DON'T HAVE ELECTRICIANS SO TO SPEAK, WE RECOMMEND PEOPLE TO GET THEM, IF YOU WORK FOR THE COMPANY YOU WORK AT THEIR SALARY NOT AT WHAT A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN WOULD MAKE IF HE WAS 'ED'S ELECTRICIAN INC., AND PEOPLE WOULD CALL YOU FOR HELP, GOT IT?

I have one other question. Is it true also that they can 'work their way up' applying for difft positions every few months or so? FH has a friend of a friend who works their and he makes VERY GOOD money.

Re: NWR..Does anyone know anyone..
FH used to work there and is on the phone. He said yes, this is true. He said to keep in mind that if your FH has a college degree he can move into management after a couple of months and the salary is significantly higher.
even without being a manager, he said they will receive raises every year, when he was there it was about $2 or $3 per hour per year.

On phone with Dad now - for an electrician - there's really not a whole lot of movement....because they don't have power plants anymore....
and the after a few month thing....not so much....it takes time to move...you start on the bottom & work your way up...but it's more than a few months.

just wanted to clarify - it takes years not months to move up but there are pretty big jumps in pay when you DO move up. . . but you have to pay your dues for a few years. . . at least if you dont have a college degree.

Thanks Jessica! You have been such a great help! I will show FH all of these posts. He has a MAJOR decision to make now. He is very confused as to what to do b/c of the pay cut BUT has an opportunity to make soooo much more $$ than he is now in the long run.

Exactly - my dad stressed that BIG TIME....you have to work your way up....he's been there 44 years to get where he is now...

Right - that's just it. My dad said to make sure i said the union thing....and the benefits and all that stuff that comes with a job like that...
Like I said - he started in the mail room, then went to reading meters(HORRIBLE job), and has been in maybe 6-7 other positions..
He also said in order to be management, you have to make a certain percentage more than the highest paid person in your dept....so you can imagine what you have to go through to get that!
