NWR:For those of you who removed wisdom teeth

Did removing your wisdom teeth leave holes in your gums where the teeth used to be? Someone told me youre left with holes and food gets caught in there. Is this true? Im scheduled to remove them next week and Im freakin about this.

It is at first, but then you figure out how to use your tongue and suck out the food. Such an attractive visual, I know

i had mine taken out about 10 years ago, and the holes go away after a few weeks. i remember the dentist gave me this little plunger thing to use to flush the food out of the holes if food got stuck in there. it was a little syringe that you filled with water. that thing was a life saver!

I had all of mine taken out 2 summers ago. The holes were there for about 1-1 1/2 months but they were healing so they were getting smaller and smaller. Ask your oral surgeon for the most helpful tool that will get you through this....it's a syringe-like (pardon my spelling but Im tired) thing but on the end it has like a tilted spout so you can fill it up with water and then point it right into your holes and squirt the water in which will force any food thats in there out. I hope you're not looking at your computer screen like Im so bad at describing things.

Dont worry, Im sure everything will be fine. Hey, if I could do it, ANYONE can!

I was only born with the top ones and one of them is poking out. Its giving me headaches and it hurts when I laugh. Nothing excruciating but its uncomfortable. Good luck with yours also!

Girl I know your fear!!! Is there a reason why youre pulling them out now? Did they start coming up? Only one of mine is sticking out and bothering me so I might chicken out from removing the other one.

I have no holes but I do have a slight indentation from where the stitches were. I also only had it removed about six months ago so eventually, like with the others, it will go away.

Your Doctor can explain this to you better but the natural healing process involves a process where first the gums heal up and cover the spot where the tooth was removed then over time bone naturally fills back in where the tooth was removed. This process varies form person to person. While you are healing you should stick to the foods that your Dr. tells you. If you are really concerned there are things your dr. can give you to help keep the area clean while you heal. But in time it will be pretty much back to normal. hope that helps
