no teasing..I think that cheapens the proposed win. It would suck if the votes after all were said and done showed Kerry as the winner.

I am truly frightened. There will be 4 or 5 very conservative appointees made to the Supreme Court.

You can kiss the following goodbye...

The environment
Roe v. Wade
Stem Cell Research
Social Security will be privatized which will give more power to a select few Wall Street companies.
For all of you that make less than $200K a year, your taxes are going up while those making more than that will go down.

There will be a draft. There already is... An officer from Jericho, LI was killed in the past few days. His father begged him not to go on his THIRD tour. Our men and women in Iraq don't even have the proper radios or flax jackets. They are riding around in vehicles with plywood on the side for protection because our government didn't order fully equipped armored vehicles because they didn't think they'd be there that long. Reminds me, Napoleon didn't outfit his troops with winter uniforms and the Russian winter caused 500K out of 600K to either die lor desert. He didn't think the Russian campaign would take that long. Hmmmm? Something to think about.

The war on terror will never be won. It is a fact of life. I lived in Irish Republican Army territory. We now just have to manage it but there were other things we could have prevented but I guess the above is not important to the American people.

I am truly saddened and fearful that the American ideals so many have given their lives for in the past 100 plus years will be overturned very quickly.

Thank you so much for outlining all of my fears for the next four years. I am honestly very worried about the state of our country.

We are going to lose a lot having him in office for 4 more years.

I said it on NWR and I will say it again here...

It is a sad sad day for our country. I am seriously praying for the troops in Iraq and for all of the young people who are in the age range for being drafted...which is inevitable.

It sucks even more that the democrats lost more senate seats. It is usually a good balance to have the majority of the senate be the made up of the party that is opposite of the president and now they are all the same.

Re: NWR:Kerry conceded!

There was actually a lot more I can say.

Yes, 53% of the popular vote is not a vote of confidence.

Oh, also...

1. Outsourcing of jobs- he has given multi-million dollar corps. tax breaks for sending jobs, and now high-tech jobs overseas. Ever try to call Dell's help desk? You are talking to India!

2. Haliburton- a company that our VP ran for several years charged our government over $1. more for each gallon of oil used by US troops in Iraq. This war is making A LOT of money for private firms many of which are major campaign contributors to the REp. party. I think that's a huge conflict of interest. You can't tell me that Cheney isn't eyeing a return to their board of directors after this administration.

3. Oil prices- Expect to pay more than $3. a gallon. Why should our government do anything about the prices? Many men in our government hold huge oil stocks.

4. Prayer in the public schools- It's already happening in many southern districts. Just wait to our newly appointed supreme court upholds that ammedment handed to them from a Republican Congress and a REpublican president. It will happen. To all of you who are non-religious, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic or anything besides born-again Christian, your religious freedom is in jeopardy. We have a president who has evoked JESUS's name. I was raised Catholic and I am outraged by that. Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves right now.

The Bible Belt in this country decide this election based on morals and a war that they think can be won. This is very short-sighted thining. While the Congress does make many more key decisions we can vote them out after a short term. Supreme Court appointees stay for life. I think I'm correct (as the history teacher among us) that our founding fathers intended this country to never legislate morals. Thurgood Marshall as well as the other justices who fought so hard for so many rights for women, African Americans, other minorities their decisions and all of their hard workwill be overturned.

As Americans we must look at 'the greater good' (see John Locke) not our own specific self interests. Our country is now polarized and dangerously so.
In 1986 while Kerry was leading an investifgation into acid-rain and it's effects, Bush was trading baseball players. UGH!

I just posted this on the NWR board to the same topic but I think it's something that's important enough to do twice. This is extremely gracious of Kerry. He could have pulled a Gore and dragged this out at the ultimate expense of the American people. Instead he took the high road when he looked at the numbers and realized that they just weren't there for him. I am a Bush supporter and am extremely happy with the outcome but I tip my hat to John Kerry for this concession.

I have to agree I LOVE Bush, but Kerry did show a lot of tact taking the high road.

I personally did not like any of them. And yes I exercised my right to vote. But when you put the issues at hand, you really have to consider what is really at stakes for our country. I couldn't have put it better. You stated beautifully. Many people went out and voted without really considering the future of this country. Lack of jobs and our economy suffering. Safer nation....who are they kidding?
You will see how crime rate would go up. I think every voter should have had the same kind of perspective you wrote on here. There are major issues that should have been considered but many people chose to focus on issues that perhaps would not have been as damaging. Presidents should be elected for governing and nothing else. There will be many sons and daughters called to duty for a war that will be never ending. Many voters think their sons or daughters would not be called. Many americans get killed every day in Iraq. Sooner or later, more americans will be needed and even though they didnt' want the draft...guess what? You need to send people to the war to fight and keep the war going and 'defend' democracy and our country. And the taxpayers ofcourse that do not make over a certain amount, have to pay more taxes. I think regardless of being a Republican or a Democrat, you really need to look at the issues at hand. The wool is bound to come off the eyes of many americans as the next four years are revealed. 'In God We Trust' to help us.

The market is rallying based on the news, so for the comments regarding the economy going downhill...the institutional investors that drive the market seem to disagree and I'm sure they know a lot more about the economy than all of us.

I don't love Bush, but I think he is better than Kerry and I think our country needs Republicans in office right now!

Nothing personal against anyone, and Not an expert in Finance here, but I don't think you need to be an expert to realize how bad the economy is right now. How many people have lost their jobs....including many people in Ohio. President Bush dares to say that the Unemployment rate went down..sure it did. All of the people that were getting unemployment ran out, they are no longer part of the statistics therefore the unemployment rate goes down but these people still do not have a job. And under his administration, many jobs have been lost. And talk about oil prices.....let's not even go there. JMO

I will always wonder why they gave Bush Florida without counting the half million absentee ballots left in Florida?

I extremely concerned at the direction our country is taking-no Bush support here at all.

As an African American, I really hope my rights will be protected, given that Bush believes that No Child Left Behind is the appropriate response to combatting discrimination and equalizing the playing field.

As for his campaign strategy- it certainly was brilliant playing on the fears and prejudices of Americans. It certainly did work.
I will give it to him though, he worked his butt off for this campaign.

Given the 2 million votes that still have not been counted (yes that's right) I do hope this time it really was a fair election.

I am terrified what the next four years will bring for women, the economy, the working class and middle-class and people of color, but, I guess the majority has spoken.

Historically the market always rallys on news that a republican has won the vote. Why?

1. Because typically conservative republicans (Regan, Bush, Bush Jr.) favor tax cuts to the investor. But who has moiney to invest... not the middle class these days. Bush Jr. has promised to repeal the estate tax which allows those who have over 500K in assets to leave them tax free to their children thus ensuring the preservation and perpetuation of wealth while increasing the tax burden of those families making less than 200K dollars a year. For those of you making less than 200K a year, your taxes went up under Bush while millionares have gone down. So those with the most ability to pay taxes are paying the least? YES. This is a regressive tax base We have to get out of the economic cocoon of LI. These are huge numbers for many hard working middle class people around the country.

2. The republicans under this administration have favored tax cuts to big business. Actually, they have even given tax cuts for business who outsource jobs to other countries. YES, Dell computers saved millions of dollars in taxes by outsourcing thousands of jobs to India. For those of you who have been affected by the latest round of lay-offs at Computer Associates guess where your jobs are going? Yes, CA is outsourcing hundreds of high tech jobs to India in exchange for millions of dollars in tax cuts. This administration doesn't care about even high tech jobs for America... they want to give their personal friends in corporate America more tax cuts.

3. This war is being supplied by many private firms. Many of these firms (ie. Haliburton) have stock holders that are profitting from this war therefore, Wall Street is profitting from it. We have fellow Americans who have no interest in ending this war so their pockets can continually be lined with profit, while our young men and women are killed everyday. How can they live with that on their conscious.

I contact my financial advisor when my opinion about the validity of this war changed and told him to get me out of any mutual funds that are profiting from this war. I, personally, would not be able to sleep at night knowing that the blood of American soliders in an unprovoked war went to fund my retirement. I'd rather teach high school until I drop than have that on my conscious.

I'm not trying to start an argument. I've been looking at all of the posts on this site. Many of those who seem pro-Kerry outlined their reasons why they supported him. Many of the Bush supporters did not. Could some of the Bush supporters tell us their concrete reasons why they voted for him?

You are so right about the war on terror. I don't understand how people think it of it in terms of win/lose. It is everywhere-I don't think people realize it is something that can only be confronted and managed. Perhaps this is because we want so much to believe that we will be safer. Why can't they see that as we eliminate one group, it seems as though another rises to replace them. How many American lives are we willing to sacrifice to achieve this? I am saddened and fearful as well.

I hear that! I have come to accept that intelligence and the ability to use words that exist in Webster's dictionary are no longer an important to choosing a president in this great nation of ours! What a rude awakening it has been! Dummies Rule!
