NWR....my niece was a hero today...serious

I was laying down in another room. My computer chord is frayed and im waiting for a new one, so I havent been on.

anyways....mom and dad took lilah out to shovel snow and she could play. Dad took Lilah in. My mom continued to shovel around into my yard and onto my patio, where I have a big sliding glass door. I want downstairs to take my meds and get some water when Lilah came in. She went into my den and said 'look at gramma look at gramma.' I told her yes, gramma is shoveling snow. And she came into the kitchen and got me and told me 'come come...look at gramma. Shes laying down in the snow.' I was like ???????????? I looked outside and my mom had passed out cold. I got my dad (his office is in the house) and he got my mom. She was dehydrated and got hot and dizzy and just went out cold. She wont go to the hosp. Shes drinking water and eating something.

I just thought Id share. I would have gone back to lay down with Lilah by the TV in another room and never looked out there.

I love my little Delailah. Shes sitting with my mom right now, giving her Hot coca and marshmellows.

thanks! Its hard bc Im on medicine that leaves me very out of it...so I cant do too much.....but she was able to notice that my mom wasnt supposed to be laying in snow. we are all so proud of her. Esp. my brother. Hes beaming

Seriously though, your mom should go to the Emergency Room.....people don't just 'pass out' for no reason. I can understand if she hadn't drank or eaten anything for days but maybe she passed out from exerting herself which could indicate a heart condition or even a mini-stroke, etc. You shouldn't play around with these things....IMO I would insist she just go get checked out. Worst case.......she's fine and lost a couple of hours, big deal!

I just FM'd you pretty much the same thing. Although I am a nurse, I won't sit here and play Doctor, However, I do need to advise you and anyone else reading this, that these things do not just happen from something like dehydration. Could it? Sure. A lot of people 'over bundle' then go outside and over-do it with the shovel and then you have a heart attack. It happens every single time it snows. Trust me. I'm not saying your mom had a heart attack, but it could be something like an abnormal heart rate (atrial fibrillation can cause this) among other things. She needs to be assessed by MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. There are constantly posts asking for medical advice...I see them so much it's ridiculous. I have to tell you, Web MD and LIW is NOT the place to be seeking medical advice (not that you were). There are A LOT of misinformed people out there. Most of them will make you panic for no reason, or tell you to brush something (like this) off, meanwhile it could be something serious. I'm sorry if it sounds like I am lecturing, by all means I am not, but I have seen some pretty avoidable outcomes if people stopped trying to play doctor and get the medical attention that they need. The worst case is that you sit in an ER for a few hours.

She wasnt even outside with her.. she was inside with me. She looked outside and knew enough that you dont sleep in snow.
