NWR:NYSED rant

NWR:NYSED rant

I just spent over an hour waiting to talk to NYS about wrong info on their Teach system. It says that I have a BA instead of a BS and it doesn't have my Masters as verified. So I freaked when I saw this, because I am looking for a job in a public school and if they check Teach it does not show my qualifications and looks like I am lying on my resume. So after waiting forever I get a woman who tells me this is a very common problem and there is nothing they can do about it. So I asked her what happens when I am looking for a job and the perspective employer checks my info and it is wrong. She says, 'Do you really think they would check this?' I can't even believe she would say that. What is the point then? I also asked about my MS not being verified and she told me they do not have the time to enter that information. I'm ashamed for NYS.

I kept calling for over an hour, close to 2 hours. This was my first time getting through. Every other time I have tried I've given up on them. I wish I gave up today. They are useless.

i'm trying to get my professional certification (which is crap in its own.... why did we lose the permanent?) and they only gave me 2 years of teaching credit. i don't quite have 3, but definitely more than 2!! now that i'm living in SC, i don't know what i'm going to do... not sure if they'll allow teaching down here to count. i don't want to lose my NY cert just in case i want to come back. i have no urge to do all of this crap over!!

hahaha sorry... getting a little worked up

I have a lawsuit against them. Not suing for money just for them to clear up alot if mistakes theyve made.

ie-lost my fingerprints, will not let my lawyer see the SEVEN tests i have taken for the cst and failed 7 times by TWO points....

be careful. I don't trust them. fsil works for them and she said she actually saw them throwing out resumes...

I AM WITH YOU. I have a BS and an MS and they both say BA and MA. I have to fight that as well. I have had nothing but trouble trying to get all my certs. It is a horrid system and I agree NYS should be ashamed of itself.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with this problem, as she made it seem like this happens to everyone and who cares about it. I don't understand if everyone calls about it, why they don't see it as a problem that needs fixing.

I wish I could keep calling or go. Collectively I have spent numerous hours on the phone with them and this was the ONLY time I got through AND I'm not driving to Albany to go in person. I think even if I did show up I might be a raving lunatic and get myself arrested!

wow! that sounds like a nightmare.. i'm not a teacher, but i can't imagine having to deal with this. they make a mockery of your qualifications and then are too lazy to fix it!

I have had my fair share of trouble with the NYSED as a teacher.... I would suggest that you call at the moment that the clock hits 9am. (opening time). This worked for me but then again it wasn't during vacation time. But try calling later in the day like around 11am or 2 pm.

Last year I was teaching without certification because they didn't give me the right certificate. And the school kept getting notices that I was uncertified... but it got resolved. Actually I think I even got to talk to a manager because I put up a big fuss....

hope it all gets fixed.
