NWR..sorry I just dont know what to do anymore..

So for half of my life my father was an alcoholic, a few years ago he had to get a quadruple bypass and we found out it was all due to his drinking , so he got really scared and stopped. Then 2 years ago, again due to his drinking, he had colon cancer ( all fine now ). Lately Ive had a feeling he has been drinking again and I brought it up to my mom and she brushed it off because she doesnt think he would again due to what happened to him twice. On our way home from BBB, we saw his car parked down a side street and then it hit me that there is a bar around the corner. We went inside and there he was...wasted, and thinking he was going to drive!! My mom flipped out and took away his keys. He just got home and was screaming and yelling like a maniac. I really dont know what to do or say, I dont want him to drink at the wedding, but I cant be like a hawk. I want him to get help but he doesnt think he has a problem. ugh sorry I just needed to let this all out...

my FFIL has a drinking problem but its not like he is a miserable angry man. My FMIL goes to AL-NON meets like a few times a week and thats how she deals. I worry about FH all the time that he could have that gene. Just know we are here for you

that's a tough situation. I am really sorry for you.

Perhaps let the matre'd know about him. You don't need to go into details. Just point him out to the matre'd who will then tell the bartenders and waitstaff. Maybe just say, 'please do not serve him anything to drink.'

i dunno though... def a rough situation

I have to agree with this. I'm so sorry to hear you're in this situation. But I'd definitely tell the maitre'd and bartenders not to serve. Or to serve him VERY watered down drinks.

I would agree with the watered down drinks...if they don't serve him he might make a scene and you def don't want that.

thats a rough situation... as much as you want him there you dont want to worry about if hes drinking or not, i would try to talk to him about it and see what he says and if he starts actually trying to get help

OMG Kerri! I am so sorry you are going through this. I know what its like to live with an alcoholic. (my ex was one) Do you think that right before the wedding you can talk to him and ask him to please not over do it. If you tell the bartenders not to serve him or to water down his drinks he may start a scene at the RH. You really dont want that either. Can you keep him up dancing alot, taking pics with family. See if you can get family involved in trying to keep him busy. The less free time he has the less he will drink. Its a thought.
If you want to talk FM me.

So sorry Kerri

What you're going through is so rough, but it's not your responsibility (or your mom's) on your wedding day. See, if you can get a relative to keep an eye on him, an uncle maybe... DEF talk to the RH, your maitre d and bridal attendant will do what YOU want, their only job is to keep you happy... so they can ensure that his drinks are watered down.

Keeping him busy is another option, photos, dances, etc. Is it possible to talk to him when he's sober as in: I love you, I want you at my wedding, but please don't hurt me by being drunk and making a scene? No one wants to see their daughter hurt... will that get through to him at all?
