NWR:Those who've had Deviated Septum Surgery

I am scheduled for surgery in early March and was wondering what to expect as far as recovery, pain, etc...i am not having anything done to my nose as far as changing the shape, size (even though it's big...haha)...it's to help alleviate my sinus and breathing issues...any info would be appreciated...thanks!!

My mom had it. She was in a lot of pain the days right after but she breathes much better when she sleeps now.

I had one done about 11 years ago... although in the process I had my nose reshaped... LOL! Looks better now.

The next day was the worst then it's not so bad and you should be okay after a week. It's really not that bad from what I remember.

Kind of long!!! Sorry!!

I recently had this done on 1/25/07. I had very little pain. I would say a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10. All I took was Tylenol. The doctor gave me a prescroption for pain but i only used it twice.

The worst part is having the packing in your nose....it is vey hard to sleep eat and drink. I had a mustache bandage that had to be changed very often. I had the surgery on Thursday and the doctor took the packing out on Monday. I think I had more pain on Monday than I did during the weekend. After he took the packing out around 1pm that Monday , I got a bad headache between my eyes by 4pm. That's when I use the prescription painkiller. I was supposed to go back to work on Tuesday but I decided to take and extra day and went back on Wednesday.

It's been about 2 and 1/2 weeks now and I so glad that I did it!!! It was the best decision that I have ever made to better my health. My septum was deviated on both sides and I also had a polyp that was removed. These abnormalites along with my allergies mad my life a living hell. But now I can breath and sleep normally!!!!!

This is getting kind of long and everything else is kind of digusting ( nothing bad) so i don't want to post it.....FM if you have any more questions.

I didn't have it done, but 2 close friends did.... It's basically the same as a nose job, as far as recovery and pain is concerned.... They were swollen and in pain for a little bit, and had bruising under the eyes, but it quickly improved... Think about a week of modified lifestyle, if I recall correctly. They were almost completely healed within weeks...

I had no bruising at all which was weird becasue I bruise very easily! Doc says it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to completely heal. My nose is still a little soar in some spots but the results are definatley worth the few days of misery. And it certainly helped that FH took care of me the whole time!!!

thanks for all of your responses!!! Seems like it won't be too bad... as long as it's not swollen by the wedding I'll be happy!
