Okay so Friday morning I was on the train and I looked in my wallet and noticed that my ATM card wasnt there. So I was thinking when the last time I used it was and it was last used on Tuesday. So I panicked and I called the 800 number and asked them to deactivate my card. I just wanted to play it safe incase it infact was lost. Well I was on the phone for like 20 minutes and it was cancelled and they issued a new one that I would get in 5 to 7 business days. Well FH calls me and tells me that he is taking money out of the bank and I told him that I dont know where the ATM card is and they cancelled it bc I asked them to. FH tells me that he has it and would you believe that he tried using it and the freakin thing still worked?!?!?!!?!? I called at 8am to cancel it and he used it the same day at like 6pm. Well, I got home from work, called the bank again and went ape poop............thank God my card wasnt missing b/c lord only knows what could have happened. The guy I spoke to at night said that the card doesnt show it was ever cancelled but they did request a new one. He said the card is deactivated like in 2 minutes and he was all apologies. This isnt the first time I had a probelme with this bank. We have our mortgage and our 2 accounts with them. One month they actually took out the mortgage TWICE.......yes, I said twice. They had the nerve to tell me they can only send a check for the amount that was taken out twice and that would take 5-7 business days to get.............. So with all of this said, what banks do you ladies use and do you recommend them??

i do not like banks we ask them to hold our money and they every time find another reason to take our money every charge in america. but now i am geting smart using one account just for the car payments and one account for the personal savings and that is it.

i hate washington mutual. they've done a lot of crap to me, too.
they seized my account with money in it, they wouldn't tell me why, they reported me to chex system (sp). after years of fighting with them, and not being able to have a bank account in my name... they just canceled the report. no explanation... and i had to write them a letter requesting the balance that was in my account to be sent to me!!!!!!!!!
they did the 'cancel the card' with NO record of it to me also... much earlier than they closed my account.
i had only gone to them because there was no bank of america in florida at the time.
i'm with bank of america. will be forever!

I had a similar issue w/ North Fork Bank, but unfortuantely, my card # WAS stolen. Not only did they not close the accounts when I asked them to, they told me that there are just bad people in this world and I should get over it!

I have HSBC. They seem to be pretty good. Fiance has chase. . . He likes them too. I also have an account at Nassau Educators FCU.

i have washington mutual down here (in tx) only bc it was the best option and i'll only have it for a year. in ny i have my accounts through the teacher's federal credit union in bay shore and LOVE them. REAL free checking and savings (i think you only have to have 50 in savings to keep it open) only $15 if you bounce a check. they're always really nice and i've never had a problem with them.

me too! i have wamu now but i'm going to move to commerce this week. i feel like every time i check my statement theres a new charge for something!

Wow.
I haven't had a challenge with WaMu yet... a few minor things I don't care for... but no deal breakers.
I HATE BoA. That is all I can say. Whatever bank you go to, please know that BoA is among the WORST. I am in a financial field and deal with people and their banks all the time. I can only warn that they are barnone the one bank that has more beaurocratic ******** than any other.
And Chase runs a close second for their games with Visa accounts.
