trying to help out a friend who has been asked to become ordained online so that she can perform a marriage in the state of New York.
Does anyone have any helpful websites? Any good pointers? Has anyone met anyone who's done this before?

how did you go about getting ordained? Do you have to specifically join a church, register with the state????

I got ordained through Universal Life Church so that I could marry a friend of mine. It was the easiest way to do it but that was when I was 19 so things may have changed since then.
I had to order the OFFICIAL license not just the one you print out, which cost a few bucks, and had a raised seal and bring it to town hall. (i have the license but never went to townhall b/c the couple went to Vegas instead)
I suggest calling the Town Hall where you'll be getting married and see what they tell you. Some areas no longer accept ULC minister certificates.

Also, Jess, do this ASAP b/c when I was looking into it, some states/counties/towns had regulations stating that the person had to be licensed for over 30 days before they could perform a legal duty.
