March 2: 'Running of the Brides' in NYC Where: Filene's Basement, Union Square, Manhattan When: Friday, March 2; Doors open 8 a.m. but lines will form long before then. Who: Bargain-seeking brides, many with lots of extra manpower.
It's a chance to scoop up a designer wedding gown--which typically retail from $850-$9,000-- for $249-$699. And it's an event brides-to-be take very seriously.
When the doors open at 8 a.m., hundreds of brides will literally go running through the store in hopes of plucking their dream gown from among 2,300 dresses featured in the sale. They'll ask their mothers, bridesmaids or friends to grab as many dresses as they can handle. They'll disrobe in the aisles. They'll barter and swap rejected gowns with other brides-to-be.

Re: NYC - BARGIN BRIDAL DRESS SALE!!!!
Word of warning: A friend of mine did this. It is NOT for the faint of heart or anyone who has their heart set on a particular dress. If you go in there with specifics in mind, you'll probably come out in tears. However if you just want a designer label dress in a certain style (strapless, poufy, chiffon, etc, in whatever dsigner that maybe be) than you will be ok.
I was there in Filenes with her. It was one word;
H-O-R-R-I-F-C!
We had to barter back and forth, sit on the dresses she had, keep others from stealing them from us and then try to keep trading till she got a dress she liked. The sizes are also samples so you may end up with a dress you love...in a size 14 and you're a size 6! That means MAJOR tailoring and more fees....
SO the final word on this is unless you MUST have a Vera Wang because you plan to show everyone the label, I would skip this unless you have an ample supply of aggression and valium...

I heard people go in unitards to easily jump in and out of gowns!
A friend of the family got her dress at this even about 3 years ago. She spent about $350 to have her dress altered into a size 2 from an 8.

LOL there is NO SHAME! people throw off thier clothes in plain site-some wear swimsuits. Some wer normal underwear (Alot of it RATTY) and no one seems to care. Its all a flurry of motion. If I ever went back (gagged and bound) I would copy the NYC winos and carry a flask inside my purse. Seriously...Consider what you will save in sanity if not in money by not going to this.

Re: NYC - BARGIN BRIDAL DRESS SALE!!!!
i wont even shop in the mall after labor day to avoid the holiday rush. this sounds like my worst nightmare.
I went to Filene's Basement a day after the madness (last year), and I was so disappointed. The dresses were in horrible condition, and most of them were heinous. I think the 'real' running of the brides in boston has a better selection of dresses...
