NYC GTG?

Original post by NYCMeghan

Anyone want to get together in NYC one evening? I'll plan - just let me know if you're interested and when might be a good date. I was thinking drinks after work one evening, but am open to suggestions...

Re: NYC GTG?

this is the digitalcity.com review of tiki room. I've never been there, so anyone who can give input please jump in!

Tiki Room
4 W. 22nd St.
New York, NY 10010

Inspired, perhaps, by the two-part 'Brady Bunch' Hawaii episode, this gratingly perky bar is way too earnest in its kitschiness. No doubt there are good intentions here, but the place is simply too cheesy to be swank and too swank to be cheesy, though the hardworking staff does its best to keep the customers from noticing. Against a backdrop of bamboo window shades and burlap-covered walls, the long, slim bar turns out 30 varieties of overpriced theme drinks ($16 Martiki, anyone?). Icy air conditioning blasts as a none-too-hip after-work crowd grooves to lowbrow pop hits provided by a DJ every night from 7PM until closing (no cover). Walk through the giant tiki torch near the main floor's bar to discover the cavernous back room, or head upstairs to the dimly-lit lounge, sink into a semi-circular banquette and have your own private luau. -- Michelle Pepe

So all there is to it is ambiance and drinks I am not much of a drinker so I was wondering if there could be something for others like me to do.

Re: NYC GTG?

thats why I was leaning toward Jazz or BarCode. BarCode is a totally cheezy bar/arcade but with a group it can be a lot of fun. The hotel bar (Hotel Metro I think is the name) is near Macy's and has a really pretty roofdeck - its a fun place to hang out and talk, especially if the weather is nice. I'm not much of a drinker either, so I am for a place that has a bit more to do...

There is a good Karoke place on Bayard street (Winnies), but it tends to get crowded. A thought, though.
