NYC Public School Teachers - Taking days off?

How will you ladies go about taking days off for your wedding if you have to?

I purposely planned it for the summer so I wouldn't have to worry about that, but I know of two teachers in my school who took a whole week off. Just ask your principal nicely. If she says no, you can take them without pay. Are you tenured? If so, it really shouldn't be a problem.
Good luck!

i'm definitely not tenured, in fact, this would be my first semester as a teacher

This is my first year as a teacher. I work in a very small, close knit site school so our principal is not in our building, but elsewhere. My coordinator has known about my wedding since I started working there. They understand that I need the 2 days before my wedding off..and they were totally fine with it!!

My mom works in a school and one of the teachers got married and the principal would not let her take days off for her HM. And she even told her she should of had her wedding according to the school calendar. I would die, if they told me that. We actually I wouldn't care I would just wait for the HM no biggie.
Thank god my school is ok with us taking a HM when ever.

Re: NYC Public School Teachers - Taking days off?

Our wedding is Sunday, Nov 2, so I'm planning on taking off that Friday and Monday. I'll go back on Tuesday. It's Election Day, so no kids in attendance. It'll be a whole day of professional development and grade meetings anyway. Between my school schedule and FH's business trip calendar, we've decided to wait until July '09 to take our HM. That way, we can also save up $$ for it!

If you can, request the days you need as Personal Days in writing to the principal. I think for each school calendar year, we're eligible for 3 personal days.

ETA: I just remembered a new teacher at work got married on the Saturday that began our December break, which I'm assuming from your wedding date is what you're asking about. He did take off that Friday before. He was actually in charge of planning more of the wedding than his FW, so I know he was super busy the week before the break.

Can you wait a few days to take your HM? I know the school calendar for NYC public schools that they're closed through Jan. 2nd.
