Hi girls - I'm new to this board as I just got back from a vacation with my boyfriend and he proposed! It was wonderful to be away with him (Vancouver Island) far, far away from the overwhelmingness of NYC reality! Anyways, now I'm looking at different types of locations for a NYC wedding. Has anyone here gotten married at a temple in nYC? I am thinking Park Avenue Synagogue -it's beautiful. Are temple weddings usually cheaper than getting married elsewhere? AHH!!. I'm beginning to get overwhelmed.....................

I have been told Temple weddings are usually cheaper-- we did not really look at any since neither of us are that religious.. But, the higher end temples- will probably still be in the lower end of the range of a high-end venue.
I can't think of any temples in the city off hand though.. There is one on gramercy park-- I am sure that is nice and you can get inside the park for pics-- that would be awesome..

I went to a temple for a baby naming - Temple Shaaray Tefila - it's on 79th & 2nd (I think). We were a small group, so we didn't get to see the main ballroom, but the sanctuary was very pretty!

Congratulations and welcome to the boards! I know more about LI temple weddings than NYC ones, but my sister was married at Manhattan Beach JC in Brooklyn, and I recently went to a nice affair there. I had my Bat Mitzvah reception at Kingsway JC in Brooklyn, which was also the site of my sister's Bat Mitzvah and my parent's wedding. I know nothing about its reputation now though. Good luck! ETA: I was always under the belief that temple weddings were more expensive. I didn't look at any other types of venues though.

I am getting married at temple beth torah in melville. while the per head amount is expensive, you get a lot more for your money at a temple.

Temple Beth Torah in Melvile is beautiful!!! We just went there for a wedding. The cocktail hour, specifically, was AMAZING!! Replete with a wine tasting room!!! CONGRATULATIONS!
Do you mind me asking how much the per head is there?

It's about 140 - 160 a head as a base price, depending on season and day of the week. There are lots of extras that you can have, that can increase the costs, though I think they'll put on an amazing wedding without a single addition.
