Re: nyc teachers
I am not in the city but I am sure the procedure is similar.
Do you have a building rep or someone that is like a shop steward? If you do, they are the ones that are responsible for 'filing' the grievance and deciding whether or not it is even grievable.
Good luck!

Or you can call the boro office of the UFT

Yes, I would call your borough office.
What is your school's chapter leader like? Any good? She/he might be a good place to begin. Our current one does nothing so if I had a problem I would call my boro office (after talking to a couple very knowledgeable co-workers who would give me input and know the contract).
I have been in the system since '96 and know a bit about the contract myself. You can FM me if you want.
My school will also probably be hiring. It's a 5-8 school in the Bronx.

The procedure is you have to go to your school's chapter leader. If you feel that this person is not good enough to argue your case with you to the principal then you shoudl call the uft office after you filed the grievance. You do know the SBO book is out and the seniority transfer willbe out soon. I am so bummed I can't take advantage of this b/c I am having a baby in July and not sure if I am returning until NOvember. Good luck!
