NYC teachers-help!

Does anyone know anything about the file #?

I just got hired recently w/ the BOE! I'm really excited! This was such an answer to prayer! My principal says I need a file #. I went into the 65 court St. place & the Queens ISC to file my paperwork 2 weeks ago. I called today to ask about whether they have a file # ready, the lady said no and that I will supposedly receive it w/ my 1st paycheck. I'm really confused! I thought you need your file # in order to be on payroll? How does this work?

Help!

if you have a committment letter from a district or school you do not need a file #; they will assign it to you after
the principal needs to see if you are in RMS and if you are, they can hire you on their computer

im an assistant principal and we do this all the time

I received my commitment letter and handed that in along w/ the rest of the paperwork to the Queens ISC. Question....I'm not familiar with this but.....what's a RMS?
Thanks!

Congratulations!!! You probably won't get paid for a while--just be prepared for that--your payroll or principal's secretary will figure the rest of it out for you.

i was told i needed a file number in order to get paid. i went to 65 court street, they sent me to the office in queens plaza and then i finally ended up and my district office which is where i was finally able to get it.
I needed a letter from my principal (it was only like a sentence that siad he hired me with his signature)

Wow... things have changed! But your payroll secretary would be able to give you that info. In case she doesn't it's a 6 digit number, being that you're new you're number will probably start w/ 8..... or 9..... Don't know if that's helpful...but just ask the sec. on the 30th. Usually when you apply they'll give you the number, they tell you to memorize it or write it down. It's like your social....but I guess things have changed nowadays!

Your job offer generates a file number. Since the city hires several thousand new teachers each year, it takes awhile for each new hire to be processed. You'll get a check during the first pay period, and you can ask your payroll secretary for your file number.

Congrats and welcome to the club! Where and what do you teach?
