I know the NYC schools are doing the Tsunami relief thing and are donating money. But, how are/is your school doing it without doing another fundraiser? My sons school (Im on leadership) doesnt want to do a fundraiser but wants to collect money for the relief. Any suggestions would be great.

Re: NYC teachers or any teachers really
My middle school had a bake sale and put donation jars near the doors where there are hall monitors. In my elementary school they had a collection among the 5th grade classes and raised $750! The teacher center recently donated $500 to the teachers and we may give that to the relief efforts. We may also put donation jars outside the cafeteria lunch lines so kids can donate their lunch change-I really liked that idea!

We don't have anything in place in my school at the moment, but I think also think a penny drive is a good idea.

one of the schools in the district is holding a garage sale. They asked parents, staff etc to donate things to sell and put an add in the paper asking the community to doante as well... everyone in town is talking about it. It starts at 9 and I know there will be a line around the block to get in!!

We do penny wars.. against each grade and faculty... each penny you put in a big water bottle is worth a point.... dollar bills are worth 200pts.. here's where the war start... you can add any other coin to another team's bottle and they deduct points from that team's score.. so for example, if you put a nickle in a bottle, they deduct 10points from that teams score.. it's been really fun and they announce who's in the lead and then the next day that team isn't because their bottle gets doused with silver coins...

we are doing a relief fund for unicef...everymorning, teachers collect money and then our student council is also placing containers in local businesses to collect donations. the first day, our school donated about 2,000$. we were so proud of those kids!
