Can someone explain to me the deal with empowerment schools. Advantages/Disadvantages?

empowerment means that the principal signs a contract that they will raise test scores 2 years in a row- and they can do whatever they have to do to do that---meaning the principal does not have to answer to a LIS or Sup. however- if they DONT raise scores, they lose their jobs after the second year.....
so basically they put their job on the line, put yourself in their shoes and think of the advantages disadvantages.

Do you mean the advantages and disadvantages for the school itself or for being a teacher in an empowerment school?

i think that would depend on your principal, as they will be running the show completely. If you are new at your school, talk to some of the staff and get the overall feel for administration, and that will give you an idea of how it might go.

Disadvantage would probably be is that you don't have a say at all in terms of teaching . all creativity goes out the window.... be prepared to teach solely to a stupid test.
