I am a teacher and FI is NYPD. We are getting married on Jult 5, 2013. We both really want fireworks involved somehow because, though FI said I love you VERY early, I was ready but decided to say it on July 4th. He jumped the gun and 'stole my thunder' but still, fireworks are very special to us. They are WAY to expensive to get for our reception but I thought a 4th of July rehearsal dinner/BBQ party would be so much fun. Thing is, FI swears he will never be able to get 4th of July off from work. I really want him to just ask but he is incredibly hesistant. That's wrong, he's absolutely not willing to ask. Any advice would be great.

Re: NYPD advice
Why won't he ask? My dad was NYPD for 20 years - he'd always ask for certain days, wouldn't always get them but it doesn't hurt to ask!

Re: NYPD advice
It seems to always start an argument or tension so I haven't brought it up in a while since we still have a good amount of time for those kinds of details. I wish he would just ask.

Re: NYPD advice
its his wedding they will make an exception!!
its a year away, he can always find someone to switch with if they give him a hard time.

Re: NYPD advice
Its the day before his wedding! I can't see why they wouldn't give him off!!! Or ask someone to switch with him? Maybe he has something planned already and wants to surprise you?

I love him dearly but the odds of that are slim to none.

Re: NYPD advice
Sounds like my fh, there are just certain days he knows not to ask off for and refuses to even try. Honestly though, its his wedding, i am sure once it gets closer he will get the day off, i wouldn't worry, only problem is if he's inviting coworkers, they may not be able to get off but i wouldn't worry about that either.

Re: NYPD advice
my FH is in the NYPD as well-- it seems like anytime there is something big going on he has been able to get off. i know that the 4th of july is probably a no excusal day, but i feel like they could try and work it so that maybe he could have the night off at least. (not sure what tour he is on though). my FH's bosses have been understanding if its something big, and your wedding is certainly something big! its definetely worth asking!!

Fh is NYPD also; he can do a mutual maybe take someone else's day they need. This way he isn't asking for the day off but he is ab,e to have it and it nit count against him. Is the wedding an Rdo? If it's not will he have to take that whole week as vacation?
I know it's stressful but he needs to figure out what the potential for him actually getting the week off is. I mean when does he pick? How many guys r ahead of him.
The other thing u should keep in mind is if ur a 2013 bride he won't pick his weeks and dates off until december of 2012 so he has some time to go and even if he was going to ask he would have to wait until it was closer!
Hth gl!

Re: NYPD advice
I feel like if he asked early and considering he is getting married the NEXT day, they could possibly work something out. Maybe work memorial day or another holiday for someone and swap. I don't see the harm in asking, but I am not a PO so IDK how they work...

This! Have him ask the guys to keep that week free for him to take vacation.
