NYPD wives or FI- how often do you see each other?

I know a similar question has been posted before.
FH is NYPD. I see him maybe 3 hours a week. This sucks!! I MISS HIM. We're getting married and we only see each other 3 hours a week! Right now we're not living together, to save $$, so that adds to the problem, and I know it will get better when we get a place. Maybe Ill see him 5 hours a week.
I miss him and Im just miserable
Is anyone else experiencing this too?

Heres my advice to you.......

Cops take pride in thier work. If he decided to be a cop its because thats where he felt he should be in life. If your going into this marriage ACCEPTING his carrer then please contiune to do so throughout. I hate to see wifes that are not supportive to their husbands especially when they are cops. They have a hard enough job so coming home to one who NAGS about his job choices makes it harder. Just support him. Yes, when you get married you will see him more because you live together but that doesnt mean you'll share the same 9-5 hours. He may work double shifts sometimes and come home tired, so coming home to warm and ACCEPTING arms is important. A NYPD wife is a very hard thing. I respect you for it. I wish you much love and happiness in your marriage.

One benefit is that cops retire much earlier than most carrers so soon he'll be home with you full time and you'll then want him to get out and go to work!

I am totally accepting of his job, and I am very proud of him for it. I have never nagged or been unsupportive of his choices and obligations. I am simply saying I wish both our days off coincided a little more. I know thats not about to happen, which is the reasong Im kinda miserable.

My FH is NYPD. I am supportive of his job and have accepted that I will not see him as often as I would like amd may not have him around the holidays. Its a tough postion to be in but I could never let that get in the way of his love for this job. It is hard at times that we can't see each other more than once or twice a week. Sure I miss him and we dont live together yet.
I look at it where he does get a lot of vacation time and personal days and a perfect example is this wk he has day training where I get to see him every nite this week.
You need to hang in there. It does take some getting used to also and I do find that the time away is some time for me to do some things. I take advantage of it by going to the gym, getting together w/the friends who I dont get to see as often.
There was a quote that was posted before on a similar post, 'It takes a strong man to be a police officer but a tougher woman to be his wife'-Anonymous
(I apologize if quote is incorrect)

Please dont take my response direted towards you. My comment about nagging and accepting was me expressing how I feel about a friend who does not do this and I've never understood it. I understand how difficult it is going to be and I do wish you much happiness in your marriage.

my FH is not NYPD, he's a merchant marine. He works a 2 week schedule, which means, he works for 2 weeks straight at sea, and then comes home for 2 weeks. I absolutely hate it! During the 2 weeks he's gone, i'm miserable, and then the 2 weeks he's home, i still have to work and then between us running errands, working out etc , we only see each other a couple of hours a night when he's home.
i wish there was something to say that will make it better, but we're stuck. I hope someday soon his schedule gets better and the 2 of you can spend more time together. good luck!

I see mine only when he is off. I am not counting watching him sleep while I am getting ready in the morning or when he comes home and I am already sleeping. It is hard, but the key is finding things to occupy your time when he isnt around.

My FI is a cop and it has been so hard, but I have gotten so much more used to it. We started dating in college when we saw each other every minute so it was a huge change. I am so proud of him and amazed at all the stuff he has to deal with.
I live in Queens and he lives in Smithtown, so he sleeps over a lot because at my house he is closer to Brooklyn, where he works. (even if he does roll in at midnight, and I am half asleep, its nice just to talk a little before bed) But I am sooo jealous when I have to get up at 6:30 and he is snuggled up in the covers.
It does take a lot of getting used to, but there's not much you can do about it so hang in there! It does get better though once they have more time on, too.

My FH is also in NYPD...we still live at home also...between working at our careers, owning our own business, and trying to find an affordably home- seeing each other is kind of out of the question.....he,he. I do hope I get used to it and that is the main reason I cannot move too far away from my hometown...how lonely!! Do your FH's share their stories with you?? Sometimes I'm dying to ask....and then I just let him tell me what he wants too....not sure I want to know it all anyway!!
I'd turn into a big old worry wart!!

Re: NYPD wives or FI- how often do you see each other?

Hi, my FI is a cop too. Im the one that posted the first one on the topic bc I was so upset one week (during the RNC). Its hard and Im still getting used to it. We did a few things to make stuff better though. I took one day off from work and we went to Montauk for the day, I got a bunny to keep me company and most of all the RNC ended so now I get to see him from about 9:45 pm til we go to bed at like 11:30. I dont think missing him or even complaining about his job means that you are being unsupportive. Yes there jobs are hard and they work crazy hours but there career choice also affects our lives too. And I have heard plenty of NYPD FW say that they get mad and frustrated. Its natural. I love my FI and I totally suppot him but yes it makes me mad sometimes that I have to go places by myself and I have to come home to an empty house and that I have to miss him all the time. FMm me if you need to talk.
