Oahu?

Oahu?

I have heard mixed reviews of Oahu. Some love it, some hate it? What is it like?

Also, are two or three islands better?

I appreciate your help!

in all honestly we hated it. we thought it was like times square w a beach next to it and not at all what we wanted on our HM esp after seeing paradise in maui 1st and despite the fact that we werent right in the city and at a 5 star hotel (the kahala MO). others warned us before but we ignored it bc we thought by the 2nd wk we'd want nightlife. needless to say we were there about 12hrs before we were on the phone w travel agent in NY (we set the alarm for 4am!) to get us back to maui and on a flight less than 24hrs later bc we couldnt imagine another day there let alone 6! JMO but if you go, go there first and only for a couple of days.

we also went to OAHU for our honeymoon and enjoyed it. The weather there is absolutely amazing and our hotel Kahala Mandarin Oriental lived up to the five star rating. Oahu itself is full of tourists and the streets can get packed like Times Square. The trick is to try to go earlier for shopping to beat the rush.
The people there are also very friendly. I also highly recommend island hopping but, you must book the tickets in advance b/c we booked last minute and it was so expensive. We also went to the Big Island, Hilo which is a more 'countryside' of Hawaii. There, we saw amazing waterfalls and the nature was absolutely breathtaking. Good luck with everything.

Go to Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. Kauai is the best. You only need to go to Oahu for 2 days to see Pearl Harbor & Diamond Head hike. The hotel to stay at there is the Halekulani Hotel. It is the nicest and they have the best restaurant called Orchids. So it is like NYC on the beach. I wasn;t too crazy about it so I was glad to only be there for 2-3 days.

I could have written this myself. I recommend the exact same thing. Halekulani was amazing. And on the big island, stay at Kona Village Resorts. For Kauii and Maui, I stayed at the Hyatts which were nice. I personally would not have been happy staying in Oahu for more than 2 days given all of Hawaii's beauty on the other islands.

I would just say be careful of where you stay in Oahu. It's a busy, busy area in Waikiki--very city-like--although beaches are nice. I've heard great things about the North Shore (can't remember the name of the hotel there that a friend of mine raved about). When I visited Oahu, there were TONS of big flying roaches, which I didn't see at all in Maui. I definitely prefer the quieter islands (Maui, Kauai)

We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. Two or three islands depends upon how long you will be there.

We stayed at the Halekulani in Oahu and we absolutely loved it! We went to Maui next and DH wanted to go back to Oahu! There is so much more to Oahu than just Honolulu. People make the mistake of just seeing the city and Pearl Harbor.

Depending upon what you are looking for is how you should plan your trip. Each island is unique.
