Re: Oahu - do it or skip it?
Personally I would skip it-I went and it wasn't really a whole day thing and I was ready to leave shortly after we got there but that is JMO

Ok, I have been to Oahu and Maui. Oahu was not worth visiting in my opinion. We werent on our honeymoon, but I would have been mad if I was. I would spend your time on Maui, or the other islands.

Re: Oahu - do it or skip it?
I am going to Ohau for one night only. FH and I want to see Pearl Harbor. Never know when we will get back to Hawaii so we might as well do it when we are there. We are starting off there for just one night and then we have 5 nights in Maui and 5 in Kauai.

Re: Oahu - do it or skip it?
I have been to Oahu twice for 10 days to 2 weeks at a time and had a blast! My FI has been there about 5 times...I think Oahu is awesome --there is SO much to do there (much more than some of the other islands)...I think people who say to skip it don't know what the island has to offer...For example, we stayed 4 nights on the North Shore as well...

We did Oahu (overnight). Saw Pearl Harbor. Very moving and emotional. It's a very powerful part of our history and worth seeing. The rest of the city I didn't care for. I'm glad we only stayed 1 night.

Re: Oahu - do it or skip it?
I think when most people go to Oahu, all they see is Honolulu (the city) and Pearl Harbor. There is soooooo much more to Oahu than that! I wish we could have stayed longer. We saw gorgeous beaches, giant sea turtles, coffee and pineapple plantations, waterfalls, the North Shore (if you're there in winter they have huge waves - it's where they have the surfing championships). We wanted to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center but never made it.
So if you just stay in the city you may be bored because we are so close to a city here and it's not too different. Most of the nice hotels are in the city (yet on the water), which is great for convenience (we could walk to just about anything we wanted). But you have to venture out to the rest of the island - there is so much to see and do.

Re: Oahu - do it or skip it?
FH and I were there in August of 2003 and we stayed in Oahu for a night, but felt it was too big city like for us...it didn't feel like what we always thought Hawaii would be (gorgeous beaches, calm, laid-back).
We tried to go to Pearl Harbor, but there was a 3 hour wait (on a weekday) so we skipped it.
I would skip Oahu altogether if I had it to do again.

We're going to Oahu for one night only just to see Pearl Harbor. We're also kind of using it as a stop over to get used to the change in time zones before we head to the other islands- (Kauai for 4 nights, Maui for 6 nights, and Kona for 4 nights).

Re: Oahu - do it or skip it?
i'm having the same issues as you are. we're first doing 6 nights in maui, then 6 nights on the big island, and then 2 nights in oahu so that fh can do the pearl harbor thing.
after reading all the reviews i went back to my travel agent last week to see how much more $$ it would be to switch to kaui for the 2 nights and take a day trip to oahu. it was about $1000 more. we said NO WAY!
it's only a short time and i guess we'll do what everyone else recommended and venture out to the north shore.
