Observances from my friends wedding.
I posted about my own wedding 7 months ago, here are some tid bits from my friends wedding this weekend that might be helpful.
First and foremost- if it rains, there is nothing you can do about it and your day will be incredible no matter what! (Golf Umbrellas are awesome!)
Have a back up plan if you are planning on outdoor pictures.
Let the professionals you hire do their jobs. They know what they are doing and you should not give yourself the extra worry. That is why you hired a professional!
You probably will not need one program for every guest attending the wedding. I printed 150 for her and there were 70 left over.
If you don't have a wedding/day of coordinator, assign a friend or relative to be at the church beforehand to oversee things. It was so helpful to us and things ran very smoothly.
Make sure the officient knows the pronunciation of your name
Poor girl, for 1/2 the ceremony she was called Carolyn instead of Caroline.
Personal touches like OOT bags and bathroom baskets are not necessary, but do make a big difference. All bridesmaids should carry extra bobby pins for the bride!!
She had the DJ play at the cocktail hour and people said they didn't even notice, they were too busy socializing. It would have been better to have him play an hour longer.
If you are not planning on having him stay longer, figure out how long all the special dances will take. My friend had three parent dances, the garter & bouquet toss, a special dance by a younger cousin, and a few extra speeches. That didn't leave a whole lot of time for regular dancing and people were not ready to leave when it was over.
Attention Bridesmaids. If something is not going according to plan and it's not earth shattering, the bride DOES NOT need to know right before she walks down the aisle! There are some things she just doesn't need to know until long after the wedding
PS - She and I both had a our rehearsals two nights before the wedding. We were able to have a blast and stay out as long as we wanted with our bridal parties, then relax the day before the wedding.
