1) Sawyer was reading a Wrinkle in Time from what i recall its a book about humans and aliens interacting. 2) The Lottery woman was the woman Sawyer was in bed with when that guy is sitting in the room a few episodes back 3) Hurley owned a box factory, Locke worked in one. 4) The Numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 keep coming up...some examples
Hurley had 4 family members with him They were on flight 815 and the safe deposit box from the Evangline Lilly episode had 815 on it. Lockes accident occurred 4 years ago The Transmission was running for 16 years. The guy Hurley goes sees died 4 years ago. Hurley's grandfather had heart surgery 4 years ago Leonard the crazy guy was playing Connect 4 The French lady has been on the island for 16 years
5) Leonard last name is SIMS...like the computer game...goes with my theory on names meaning something (Ethan Rom, Locke, Walt, Sawyer, etc).
6)The whispers you hear are sometimes very low but are there. When they hit the bridge last night you heard them say Hurley and he started crossing the bridge.
I think all the charactes are connected prior to getting on that plane. Hurlery and Locke. Then you had in the Boone episode you saw Sawyer being arrested. In the Korean guy episode the daughter of the guy was watching TV and Hurley was on it. Sawyer met Jacks father in the bar.
ANy other observations by anyone....

Two more
Everyone seems to have father issues so far. Hurleys Dad was out of the picture. Then there is Jack and Sawyer. And Walt with his dad too...
Also that crazy guy Leonard said something about how Hurley 'opened the box' maybe a pandoras box??

Re: Observations on LOST Last night
Here's what I've gathered so far...Some 50 years ago, a plane crashed on the island carrying a man and a woman....
While looking for them (possibly Amelia Earhart?) the US government discovered the island and that the crash was caused due to some kind of geological anamoly generating unusual magnetic waves (Black Rock?). The government decided to try to manipulate or harness the power, possibly as a weapon. Somewhere in the Pacific around 16 years ago, there was some sort of experiment going on an otherwise uncharted island. From the Hurley episode, this experiment probably involved the manipulation of magnetic forces like EMP but thousands of times more powerful (probably some sort of super-weapon) in an underground bunker or installation (to door/hatch of which Locke & Boone found have been trying to open). In order to make this weapon/experiment work, each number in the sequence (4 815 16 23 42) played a critical, root level role. The experiment (at an installation known as Black Rock, which itself could be the source of this super-magnetic field) was tested and something went horribly wrong (doesn't it always??).
The effects of the experiment localized around the island, throwing off its magnetic field. This is why no one has been able to find the island. Over the years there have been several crashes and shipwrecks, including the Rousseau expedition, a plane that was carrying animals (polar bear, etc), and Oceanic airlines Flight 815. It's possible that the effects otf the experiment or resulting failure of same deformed or otherwised changed wildlife on the island, creating the 'monster' or monsters that have been seen every once in a while.
The effects of the strong magnetic field also affect people mentally (Rousseau's expedition members became -- in her words -- 'sick,' Rousseau herself may be crazy, Jack's visions of his dead father, and possibly may explain why Locke can walk as he may have never been paralyzed at all).
However, the effects of the botched experiment were not limited to the island and basically 'spread' out worldwide affecting chance and probability in various ways. Remember, in this theory, the numbers themselves are at the root level of the experiment and are therefore casual agents, 'triggering' certain consequences if they are used in some kind of sequence, some stronger than others. At some point, these forces basically brought our survivors together. This would explain why Australia became a focal point of our characters eventually interacting with each other, since its relative position to the island would be close enough to be somewhat affected by the fallout from the experiments. That's why the phenomenon wasn't limited to our plane crash survivors, but has affected a lot of people possibly from Claire's psychic to Lenny &
Also, remember, your basic physics: When two magnets or magnetic objects are close to each other, there is a force that attracts the poles together. When two magnetic objects have like poles facing each other, the magnetic force pushes them apart. Thus we have examples of opposite forces at play all over the island: If Walt is the luckiest guy in the world, then as we've discovered Hurley is Walt's opposite. Sawyer is Jack's opposite (in character), as Locke is to Charlie (in temperment), as Kate is to Shannon (in capabilities), as Sayid is to Boone (possibly morally?), as Micheal is to Jin (language and culture). The wild cards are Claire (and her unborn baby) and Sun, who act something as thematic bridges (Sawyer -->Kate<--Jack and Jin-->Sun<--Michael). In other words, we have magnetic behavior at work on the island emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
The mechanics of the plot (the polar bears, Black Rock, Rousseau, the stones, the monster, the mysterious hatch) are merely mechanisms which propel the actual crux of the series, which is the universal constant push and pull (cosmic magnetic properties?) between Destiny or Fate (which is out of our hands, as symbolized by the plane crash and the events on the island) and Free Will (which is within our hands, as Locke has said in one form or another, 'everyone gets another chance here').

Could the 'experiment gone wrong' possibly be the origin of grapples?
Seriously though, you just SCHOOLED us in deconstructionism!

I do think that if they open that hatch that they will release some type of virus or whatnot. I think that is what killed everyone from Danielle's group 16 years ago.

The French lady killed everyone in her group, I thought. They got 'sick' and she shot them, right?

kinda takes the fun out of it tough. . .
maybe there are grapples in the box?
BTW- how many passengers survived originally? 42?

They never said that...only that everyone in her group died...

My guess is 42 wil be left at the end of the season. There was 48 originally, then that woman died in the water, and Scott/Steve died. I think there is one other passenger who died to so they are down to 45 now.

I thought she said that she did have to kill a couple of them because of the sickness.

Lorsin, you're right. When Rousseau kidnaps Sayid, after he is realeased and she tells him abou t the others in her group, he realizes she killed everyone who was with her. There was a stand-off between the 2 and she said then that her husband had aimed a gun at her right before she killed him too.

Re: Observations on LOST Last night
also with the numbers (stumbled upon in my readings online)... the accountant mentioned 8 people dieing in Hurley's shoe factory fire
there were 8 beams on the baby cradle for Claire
16 weeks without a winner
the connect four game board has six spaces up, and seven spaces across. 42
42 is the answer to life and the universe according to the hitchiker's guide to the galaxy
backgammon is played using the doubling cube, which is a special outsized die whose faces are numbered 2,4,8,16,32,64...many of the numbers. There is something in the game about getting or losing 15 pieces too.
but like Sam Toomey's wife said, it's all about how you use the numbers!
Also..
Was Hurley a patient or a worker at the psych. hospital? Was that the trouble Hurley put his family through? Why was he on Korean TV?
I'm glad (my) Sayid got the picture of Nadia back.
in a previous episode, when Claire was having really bad nightmares, didn't she have one where her baby was crying and there was a crib? and locke was there too, with one black eye and one white eye.
Lots of box clues so far: Safety deposit box The box that had Michael's letters to Walt Soon: The hatch Jack's father's casket Box company Locke worked at/Hurley may have owned ? Pandora's Box as Lenny in the psych. ward may have eluded to
