Of all the cotton pickin' nerve!!!!!!!!

Of all the cotton pickin' nerve!!!!!!!!

Ok..so I need to vent to you ladies because I sooo cannot talk about this with my family. I am BEYOND aggravated, IIRITATED, ANNOYED...use whatever flippin adjective you like....

Tell me what you would do in this scenario:

You send out your STDs A YEAR in advance. Literally a year. EVERYONE knows about it and smiles all happy smurflike, including out-of-state relatives on my dad's side. Last night, I find out from my mom that my uncle in GA planned on having a family reunion (and its not a normal thing) on July 17, 2007-12 days before MY WEDDING!

Ok ok so maybe that sttatement sounds a bit divaish because hey, many things can happen in a year right? Ok so let's clarify... These relatives are cheap...CHEAP. Oh and did I mention....

C-H-E-A-P!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of them do NOT live in GA or even close which means they have to fly... and now since my uncle 'selflessly' moved the day to July 6th or something like that (weekend after July 4th) Ithe tickets are OBSCENELY priced. My dad's was 300 bucks. So I KNOW the relatives will come to my wedding BUT they will cry poverty..they always do but now they were hand fed a viable excuse.... Mind you. they are ROWDY-imagine every stereotype about Puerto Ricans who grew up in Harlem, times it by 100, and oh yea, the fact that the majority of them are alchoholics and we are having an open bar...Good times....

-sighs- Am I being too divaish over this? I know its three weeks before but they KNEW about the wedding and I just feel it is in such bad taste. Why couldnt they have held it after? (I'll tell you why because then i might have actually gotten a gift and they wouldnt have gone to his stupid reunion!) I almost want to revoke their invites to the wedding but it would hurt my dad so I can't. But I AM PISSED!

Not close AT ALL with that side of the family because they always snubbed me as a kid. I liked reading and wearing GAP clothes instead of sparkles everywhere and two toned frickin lipstick! (-snarls but is nice, really...-) so I was called 'snobby' and 'uppity'-you get the picture-no love lost.

Sorry...went on a tirade there. Should I just let it go and plaster a MS Universe smile and not mention it to anyone? Or should I secretly rub their invitations on my cats backside so it gains a certain elusive, je ne sais quoi, and THEN smile...

Rub it on your cats backside! I am so sorry this is happening but families are crazy, especially when they hear the word 'wedding.' My mom made me meet two cousins I had never met before so I can invite them to my wedding that I'm PAYING FOR and now we all have to pretend that we're so lovely dovey when we don't know each other from Adam. This really ***** but don't let it get you down for too long. Focus on the positives, like wedding your true love and getting so obliterated at your wedding you can ignore the fake family that calls you uppity!

Girl, I know all about it, FM if you want to chat

Definitely do this!

Now, I don't know you from a hole in the wall but from your posts you don't sound divaish at all. I would definitely suck it up though because you really don't need to add stress. When after all, all stress is self-created.

I mean honestly, it sounds as if you don't give a damn about their cheapness and you're just angry that your uncle booked it so close to your wedding. Rub his invite on your cats backside. And find a tomcat to spray on it.

Ugh, to be honest, I would NOT be happy. I mean, a wedding is not for getting gifts, but it is customary and when you have family that will cry broke because of another family event and you get shafted, it S*CKS! My family isn't Puerto Rican, but we are latin and I know a lot of people like those you mentioned. They kinda view a wedding like a free meal and alcohol ticket instead of a celebration of your marriage, and think it's ok to give a $50 check for themselves, their spouse, their 6 kids, and the friend that they brought that wasn't invited, etc. Ok, I'm just being mean and I'm partially kidding, but I know what you mean.

-hoots- yes I do! They will eat and drink the day away, bring their entire AA group, harrass the DJ, make off color jokes, glitter from head to toe in sequins and then ask for doggie bags... but...They're family...oye!

I don't even care about the gifts so much because I KNEW we wouldnt get anything from them to begin with, but it is the idea that they actually planned something around my date to 'outshine' me, that really gets my gizzard. I feel it is disrespectful to my fiance even more-so than to myself because I HAVE to deal with them-he is just marrying into the insanity, poor guy!

I know you're pi$$ed, but these posts are cracking me up. Keep your sense of humor, and I'm sure everything will work out. I really think that some people just don't think when it comes to planning events, and he might have just picked a weekend, not realizing that it was so close to your wedding. Granted, he should have changed it when he realized, but, that's what your cat's for...

Hang in there!!

Thanks girls, I'm tryin'. Laugh or cry so prefer the first. Glad it brings some grins to other faces :) Beck, btw though, he did know. He wanted to do it July 29, and my mom called and said um...hello? So he said 'Ok. Sounds good and made it the 6-7th or something instead. I expected something like this from him. Just jerky-imaine a Puerto Rican Robert DeNiiro character-everytime he talked about the 'circle of Trust' or the boob thing, my mom and I would grin at one another lol. My dad hated it.

Luvabl, they WILL dome! Thats the issue. They will come and eat me out of house and home but I'll be lucky if they spring 3.oo a piece for cards. Probabkly get one and all sign it. If I'm REAL lucky, I might even get a snooyp card!...
