# of guests???

I just went through our Christmas card list to update it with any changes we noticed during the holidays... I realized many names on this list will also be on our wedding guest list so here's a question...

I have friends all over the country, many I even went to their weddings when I lived near them at other times in my life. I also have family down in Florida and most of them have not been up to NY even for a visit in over 10 years. How do you count such friends/family in your count for your reception hall? When the hall asks for a number - do you give a range? I've been saying about 100 people, but I don't know if some people would show and what if they ended up saying 'yes'. Even some local friends that I email all the time but never see anymore I would invite b/c many I grew up with and went to their weddings but how can you give a proper guess? I'm planning on booking my hall this spring and they did say if I guarantee 100, but 90 show up - that they'll add my vendors to the 10 to make me whole again. But I'm not sure I'll be within 10 people! What if you go over your guaranteed amount?

Just from the x-mas lisit I counted about 80 people and that was excluding all but one of my cousin's in Florida. However, our x-mas list doesn't include the people our parents may want to invite. How do you handle his family's additional invitees when they aren't paying anything toward the wedding, but your p's are contributing to the cost???

This guest list thing sounds very chaotic...

Re: # of guests???

If you go over your minimum you will be okay as long as you're within the room's capacity...we haven't started the guest list and we really need to get cracking...I don't have any of my friends' addresses even!!! We also meet up in the city and call or email each other....

Re: # of guests???

you don't have to give the hall a final count until a few weeks before the actual wedding. So, what i did was guarentee the minimum. if i go over the minimum i will pay whatever the difference is (the additional heads). count them as you would any other guest. by the time you have the hall an actual count, you will have gotten your RSVP's. If you don't make the minimum you will still have to pay for how ever many guests the minimum is if the come or not...some halls will throw stuff in for you if that happens.
