Off the beaten path

Off the beaten path

A small dilemma...

I wanted opinions on options. FH and I are going to book our favorite vendors right after the new year. We have been talking about July 2007 forever (on a side note we will not be doing a 4th of July wedding or that weekend - FH has another affair to attend). We are talking about July 8 and July 15. However, I'm concerned our hall, DJ and photographer (and ceremony music vendor) will not all be available on the same day at this point (I know 7 months is not customary for starting the planning process, but we know who we want, we just need to book it all). Know that I don't need a hair or make up vendor and no limo vendor so that makes life a little easier as far as those things. Oh, and my dress is taken care of - It will be in around May 2007. I have no idea what I want for BM dresses, but I'm sure I can gather everyone in early February to do some shopping.

If worse came to worse - what about a Monday wedding? or a Thursday wedding? In July is that asking a lot of our guests... honestly I can only afford about 100 people - so I'm actually wondering if that may decrease the number of yes' in my favor. FH has a lot of friends and family and keeping the # of guests to 100 or thereabout has been a concern of mine... Would you attend a Monday or Thursday wedding? What if it were an out of town weekday wedding (we have a good number of OOT guests)? Not to sound cheesy, but will that affect people's gift giving decisions - like giving us far less b/c it's not on the weekend?

Re: Off the beaten path

My wedding is July 8th and I have only recently begun to book some vendors! I wouldn't worry about it. I have a friend who got engaged of April of last year and were married in August and they got all the vendors they wanted! So if that is your problem, I wouldn't worry about it!

As for a Monday or Thurs wedding, I wouldn't do that personally. My brother got married on a Thurs and it was a HUGE inconvenience to A LOT of people! I am not saying that is not done, but I think that it is difficult for a lot of people! I would try to get married on the Sunday if I were you!

as far as time is concerned (unless you want SUPER POPULAR vendors), i don't see how you can't get it done in seven months. my moh planned her wedding in five minths and she had her dream wedding.

as far as not having a weekend wedding, that's one area i don't know too much about. wish i had more info in that department.

like libby said, it depends on what vendors you are looking at. As far as doing it on a monday or thursday, i think it could pose an inconvienence for some people, but if it is really what YOU want to do, then you should go for it. I wouldn't expect people to give you less money, but i would expect more regrets then normal, especially from OOT people. But I am sure that close family and friends would make a way to get there for you.
good luck!

Re: Off the beaten path

Have you called the vendors recently that you're interested in to see if they are available for those dates? Maybe it will give you piece of mind and help with you pick a hall date if you know..

We booked most of our vendors between November and February..and got married in April

I find Monday's a bit harder then Thurs if you want a weekday wedding. I would call the vendors you love first.. (location first) see what dates are available that month and work from there. I think the location is the most important part to start off. Once you get all your estimates then start with your second most important vendor see when they are available. If you can hold the date at the catering hall while you search out your second vendor then do it.

I think honstly your fine for a July wedding as long as you can devote some weekends in order to plan things. I am getting bitched out for planning my wedding so far in advanced but I couldn't afford to be married next year.

So good luck!

I think if you have it a monday or a thursday people will still come. they can just make it a mini vacation for the oot guest. If they don't come they wouldn't come if it was a saturday then either. If they really want to be at your wedding and if there really close family they will be there no matter what!

I have friends that were engaged in March and married in July, so don't worry about the vendors, you'd be surprised how many are still available.

As for a Monday or Thursday, I personally would not do it only because, and this may sound rude but I am just being honest, if I were invited to a Monday or Thursday wedding I would be like what the F?!? BUT you do you, because thats all you can do! And it would not affect the gift I give, I give what I give no matter what day it lands on!

Good luck!

I only got engaged and started planning a month ago for 7/28/07 (Saturday night) and have had absolutely no trouble finding top vendors available for that day (I haven't booked anybody except hall and church yet but I'm starting to get my rear in gear). You're ahead of me - you have the dress! I think you should call the people you want to book before committing to a Thursday or Monday.

I started planning about 2 months ago for August 2007 and have had no problems getting all the vendors I wanted.

I still have vendors to book, and I haven't had a problem with availability so far (knock wood). I'm sure you'll be able to get the vendors you want!

Re: Off the beaten path

i'd pick a thursday over a Monday... People can take off on Friday and have a nice long weekend... And its the summer too so people will more than likely take off...

Have you thought of a Sunday night wedding??

In regards to the $$, that thought never crosses my mind no matter what day of the week the gift doesnt change...

As far vendors, give them a call to make sure they are still available for the dates you are considering and at the quote they gave you... even if you dont book right away... prices for 2007 will be used now if not already done so....

i just ordered my dress... stil have BM, limos and HM to do... u'll be fine... i wish now that my wedding was earlier since the planning went so quickly!!

i highly doubt you will have any trouble with booking your vendors. i am still making some decisions on some vendors and i am getting married in may. Good luck no worries you have plenty of time.

I would check with the vendors first-call them now and see if all are available. Yes it may be a little difficult for some people to come to a Mon or Thursday wedding, but anyone that can make it-will be there-but it shouldn't affect the gift giving-it wouldn't affect me giving a gift.

Re: Off the beaten path

We had a Thursday night wedding in March and I would attend a Thursday or Monday wedding. The decline rate will probably be higher than average but you will be surprised at the number of OOT guests that will attend and make a long weekend of it. All of my family members were from OOT and many of DH's guests too. We had people fly & drive from VA, TN, SC, GA as well as the locals. We had a great party and many people were there until the end. We also had an after party at the hotel.

our wedding review

The night of the week did not seem to have an effect on the gifts we received. Some people were generous and some were not....but the day of the week did not seem to matter.

My best friend got engaged about a month ago, and has set her date for August 3rd. She is in the process of booking everything from flowers to music to dresses and she isn't having an availability problem.

As for Monday/Thursday, I would pick a Thursday. My feeling is the closer to the end of the work week, the better.

Re: Off the beaten path

As everyone has said you may have a higher decline rate. If you are thinking of a Monday wedding have you thought about a Sunday wedding?
