Office X-mas parties. Ugh.

Office X-mas parties. Ugh.

I pretty much hate office x-mas parties. Actually, I think I dread them more than I hate them. We have ours tomorrow and we're each supposed to 'cook' something. I refuse to cook for these people so I always order something from some restaurant!! But they are so stuffy and fake. I much rather spend my lunch hour surfing the web.

Then you have to write down what you want from your 'secret santa' and buy something for someone else that they wrote down. How dumb and thoughtless. What's the point? Why don't I just buy myself the Ice Age DVD?

Anyone else dislike office x-mas parties or am I just a scrooge?? Bah...!

Re: Office X-mas parties. Ugh.

My office party is on Friday. It's lunch in the boardroom. I don't want to be ungrateful but it's pointless.

The owners of my company actually frown on socializing in the office so as a result we aren't. Each department is pretty isolated and at the luncheon you sit with your friends - there is little to no mingling.

I was trying to convince the office manager to suggest giving each of us a gift card to Macys' instead of the party & the dumb gift they give us. Last year it was awful chocolate, this year the girls are getting moiturizer in a blistex sized tub and the guys are getting calculators. Price wise it's the same and at least we would enjoy the gc.
