Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Original post by KimberlyBride

Hi Ladies,
I want to start this thread so we can talk about DeSeversky and share thoughts and ideas. I know there are 2 others getting married at DeSeversky so far.

Debbie has not responded to me either in at least 3 weeks. Her son was in the hospital, but still, there should be someone responding in her absence. I know how frustrated I am, cannot even imagine if I was getting married in 3 months!!!

My FH and I were thinking about taking dance lessons. I was wondering if anyone else is doing that? I can't decide if it's a waste of money or not. However, I am a little concerned about the first dance because I have two left feet!

I am...I've had 2 so far, and I'm so happy we're doing it - huge improvement so far!

I don't think I could get FH to take lessons. I told him we have to practice though.

I have a cake question for you ladies. Are you getting a cake to feed all of your guests or only half of them because of the dessert spread (do non-mansion style set-ups get this too)?

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I am having a non-mansion style wedding...and I do not get a dessert spread, (without paying a ton extra of course!). So, I am getting a wedding cake to feed all of my guests. Sorry, I'm not much of a help to you on this one!

I am under the impression that sit down dinner desserts include cookies and pastries. Is this correct? Whatever the case is, I am getting a cake to feed everyone and hopefully there are cookies too.

Yes, I think you're right...cookies & pastries on each table for sit-down style, but not the dessert 'spread' you get when doing a mansion-style.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

we are debating the same thing right now. (we are doing mansion style)
everyone says... oh.. you HAVE to have a cake. but why? when guests are already getting a choice of 8 or so desserts?
i went to a bakery where the cake was a small three tier, fed about 60 ppl and it was $400 i think. no clue if this is normal or not.

Yes, that sounds normal. I think that's what we'll end up doing. We do want a small cake.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I got a quote from Lionettes for $480 for a cake to feed 125 ppl... 4 tiers...

Maybe you should check out that bakery, it is the one that deseversky recommends.

Also... Regarding Dance Lessons... FH and I have been taking them for about 6 months now and honestly say WE LOVE IT! It is rather expensive but it give my FH and I time to get away 1 day a week from our hectic lives and just have fun! I would recommend it to ANYONE... I go to Metropolitan Dance in Garden City near Roosevelt Field.

And let me tell you... we have learned so many dances... not just the basic 2 step... so far we know salsa, lindy, hustle, foxtrot, silver, rumba... all different types of dances... ITS GREAT!

Good Luck.

Oh... Regarding the Cookies and pastries... do you think that each table gets 1 plate of each??? I was a little nervous about them serving pastries since I am from an ITALIAN family.. so I even asked Lionettes about pricing for a pound a pastries for each table. and he said it was 13 bucks a pound...

A pound usually = 13 pastries.

Just and FYI...

The cake from Leonetti's was beautiful & delicious. He even made me a small cake (a trial cake) to taste the flavors --only drawback was he did not have too many pictures of cake styles--so I just brought one that I liked. Deseversky actually covered the cost of the cake-also there was 1 tray of pastries per table included. We went to the bakery beforehand & picked out which pastries we wanted & did not want. Some look too typical for a wedding. Overall--Leonetti's was the best pick & the head pastry chef Saverio was easy to work with.

Ladies-

I am getting married at the de Seversky Center on December 30, 2006!! We are in the process of looking for a florist, a band and a day of coordinator - any suggestions you have would be very helpful!

Thanks!

Oh boy. Tomorrow is the three month mark for me.
Is anyone else adding a food station in addition to the 3 stations and carving package that is the norm? I am wondering if 3 stations will seem like too little food. Am I wrong????

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I've just passed my 2 month mark - so I'm with you - anticipation wise!

I've never read or heard of any bad reviews or issues with there NOT being enough food as is. I'm not concerned.

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

Thanks so much for the Dance Lesson Info. I think I we are going to do it granted it fits into our hectic schedule.

I can't believe it's Spring already!!!

I am not having a mansion style wedding so we are getting a cake to feed all our guests. I just had my tasting last week.

I was under the impression from Debbie that there would be a spread of cookies and pastries at each table.

Has anyone bought their shoes yet? I am starting to look for mine and have been having more trouble then I thought I would.

Vinceneb- Congrats! I would definitely recommend Flower Michele- John is so nice and does amazing work- he has also worked at DeSeversky a million times and is very familiar with the place. I am very picky about what kind of flowers I want and I definitely found him to be the best of all the places I looked at.

For a DOC- I would recommend Rosalie a lot of people who are getting married at DeSevesky are using her. She is very nice and extremely professional.

For my band I am using the JK Band. My brother used them for his wedding and they were amazing. My brother got married 2yrs ago and people are still talking about the band.

Anyway, how is everyone's planning going?
My sister and friends started to ask me what I want to do for my bachlorette party and I can't decide. Has anyone decided what they are going to do? I was thinking dinner and drinks. I definitely don't want anything crazy but I do want everyone to have fun. I was just wondering what everyone else was thinking of doing?

Re: Official DeSeversky Center Thread

I got my shoes at the Bridal Shoe Boutique:
351 Old Country Road
Carle Place
516-876-6577

They don't have a huge selection, but I was seriously looking primarily for comfort! Unless your wedding dress is a cocktail dress - no one will ever see your shoes! Opt for the comfort - and the pair I got were reasonable (under $60) still VERY cute...and very comfortable.

I've already had my bachelorette party.
We had a really fun and classy time - which is what I wanted (no strippers!!!).

My sister (MOH) surprised me with 15 of my nearest and dearest friends from in-and-out of town. We went to Sushi Samba for dinner in the Village, then she rented out space at the club/cocktail lounge, PREY (Flatiron), where drinks flowed, tons of fun (and harmless flirting!) was had, but I was still able to chat and spend time with my friends.

It was awesome, exactly what I wanted and I'd definitely recommend it. Liz - It sounds like you're looking for something similar.

Less than 7 weeks to go for me!
I've had my first dress fitting and my hair and make-up trial. I'm still debating on a videographer, and am still working on transportation and ceremony musicians. (ugh.)

Invites went out last week!!!
