Happy New Year!! I can't believe that we're hours away from 2012! I'm sick in bed today (blech!) so what better time to continue the hunt for wedding vendors? The officiant is the one thing I'm worried about. We're getting married at our hall. My FH and I are both Catholic but he's become a bit more agnostic these days so I don't want to have an overly religious ceremony but I do want our religion somewhat incorporated. I'm also concerned because someone told me that our marriage won't be recognized by the Catholic Church if we're not married in a church? Has anyone ever heard this? Is there a particular type of officiant I need to be looking for or might be able to answer these questions? Thanks so much!

Re: Officiant
i've always grown up hearing unless you are married 'in' a church it will not be recognized, but i'd ask your church. now a days they are bending the rules alil bit.
my cousins had that problem so they had a small ceremony, only their parents, brothers and sisters were there, before their RD and then that same priest was the one to marry them on the beach.

Re: Officiant
Thanks! I did too...I was hoping maybe things have changed. I'm the first in my immediate family to get married so I have no clue how anything works. I tried calling the church yesterday and the moment I mentioned possibly getting married offsite, the receptionist's attitude completely changed and she was totally unwilling to help me
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll need to try and call back and maybe mention that.
If there are any other suggestions, ladies, I'm all ears!

Re: Officiant
You can not get a priest to marry you outside of church.. We are having a retired priest marry us and then on our 1st anniversary we r getting married in a church..
we are using Rev.Thoams McCormick www.revmccormick.com
