We had an appointment to meet and officiant today and she flaked! We've been communicating for weeks now and I explained to her that I'll only meet with the final people. My fiance just finished chemo so finding the right moment for him to meet people is challenging. I confirmed with her twice this week because timing is very difficult for us right now. And still...she forgot!
We live in Brooklyn and she lives in Long Island. We drove to Lynbrook, to where she wanted us to meet. I called her after she was 15 minutes late and she's in Manhattan. She had completely forgotten. Her reaction, 'Oh that's right, you're right here in my calendar. It's just that I had all these appointments in Manhattan...' If you have appointments in Manhattan, why overbook with someone in Long Island! Esp when it would be easier for us to go into the city too!
It made me realize that of all the vendors, the one that could ruin it all is the officiant. DJ, Photo, Video - if they don't show up, it won't be great, but we could make do. No officiant and there's no wedding!
I'm just aphalled. It disgusts me enough that these 'men of the cloth' ask for so much money as it is but do be so flaky, esp given the circumstances...it's just unbelievable!
If you want to know who it was, FM me, and I'll tell you. Obviously she was trying to take more than she can handle and I'd be happy to share her name with you just to prevent this from happening to you.
Thanks for listening!

Re: Officiant Flaked on Us!!
I am so sorry this happened. You are right that there are select vendors that could potentially cause a bigproblem if they don't show up. Best of luck!

Re: Officiant Flaked on Us!!
OMG!!! That is awful! If you need a rec, we used Pastor Mike Cassara (www.pastormikeweddings.com) and, seriously, we had so many people tell us that it was the best ceremony they'd been to (he hardly glanced at the page with his 'notes' while we performed the ceremony) and they all thought he'd known us for a long time! Even though we'd only emailed with him and had 2 official meetings

I was at Jenn's wedding and he was really good! I had no idea they didn't know him until I read the above post from her!

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely give him a ring.

Re: Officiant Flaked on Us!!
geesh - sounds bad - i agree look for someone else - can i ask who it was ?
i am going to recommend april at church of ancient ways - she was fantastic with us always returns calls or emails and we were able to see her several times before the wedding.
find an officient who feels right to you - it is true they can make or break a wedding

Re: Officiant Flaked on Us!!
so she wrote me an email this morning and this was her explanation...
'Over the last few weeks, the increased demand for weddings has been very overwhelming. In addition to a full-time job, I schedule dozens of wedding-related meetings and events each month. My greatest fear was that I would someday mix up the information or forget a date, and today that fear came true.'
It took her just a few weeks to lose track of things!!!

And then what if she got 'overwhelmed' again the day of your wedding?? Then what!! She has some nerve!!!

this is also my biggest fear!! no officiant = no wedding!
we're meeting with ours next Sunday. I hope all goes well. the one thing we have on our side is that he is the only officiant recommended by our hall. he does weddings there almost every weekend.
can you ask your hall if they can rec. someone else?
