Officiant Question

Officiant Question

Since neither my fiance or I are very religious, we were thinking of maybe having a friend get ordained onlne and perform the ceremony for us. She is a close friend to both of us and a really spiritual person and I would love to have her be a part of our ceremony in some way. I was at a wedding once where the priest got the groom's name wrong at altar and I am terrified that if we just enlist the services of someone who doesn't know either one of us and who we don't know, that might happen to us.
Has anyone else ever done this?
What have your experiences been?
Thoughts?

Re: Officiant Question

The man that is marrying is an ordained minister, but he is also a family friend. He does know me and it is nice. He knows that frankie is not that religious and that my mom is Jewish and Dad is Catholic he is respecting and limiting the religious references.

I think it would be nice if she is willing to do that and if she can. I know he started out doing this as a joke and he is now retired from his real job and making a TON of money doing this so, she may also get a new career out of it.

Re: Officiant Question

Our good friend got ordained on line for just this reason. He was going to marry us, but then he recently upped and moved to Israel and will not be back in time for the wedding (which, by the way, is two years from now, long story...). But, we were going to do that, and basically everyone else that is close to us is in the BP, so we have no one left to ordain! Just make sure that the town you are getting married in allows it.

Re: Officiant Question

we had our friend perform the ceremony...and it was great...

I no way wanted someone who didn't know us to perform this ceremony...it seemed rediculous

you can be ordained through ULC
it is legal on LI (NOT NYC!!) and I combed the NYS Constitution to make sure of this!! plus I have a marriage certificate to proove it

good luck and if you have any questions...fm me

Re: Officiant Question

FMIL is ordained and is performing our non-religious but spiritual ceremony. FM me if you'd like to meet her. She's not 'running a business', but if you are comfortable with her and vice versa she could put something together for you possibly.

She's using readings like Kahlil Gibran and the Velveteen Rabbit in our ceremony!

Thanks for all of the advice! I think we may just go ahead with this idea!
