Officiant.....Questions

Officiant.....Questions

FH and I have been toying with the idea of getting married at the hall, we're so torn... it would be more convenient, and it wouldn't be such a long day...And then we'd do a small catholic ceremony after the HM with immediate family.

So, I've got a couple of questions:

-How much do officiants usually run?

Do you tip them?

How much do you tip?

How do you know if it's a good 'fit'?

Thanks!

Varies - anywhere from 300-600 bucks, and your RH may have a fee as well. A friend of mine has a friend who's a judge so we may use her, she says she doesn't charge so we'll probably use her...

-How much do officiants usually run? 350+ ours in 375

Do you tip them? your not supposed to, judges cant accept tips and all that money goes right into their pokcet cuz they work for themselves... if its a religious officant then definitly not!!

How much do you tip? A friend of mine did slip the judge money and gave him 50... the rest of my friends who used him did not tip him cuz they full 375 (250 for them since they all got married in 06,) goes right into his pokcet

How do you know if it's a good 'fit'? Our guy sent us a copy of his least religious ceremony and we loved it, we will go meet with him to finalize and we just knew. He did marry all of our friends too, so it was a given, Meet with a few and see who u like.

I've heard that some RH have an officiant included in their site fee. I would check with your RH

Re: Officiant.....Questions

The onsite ceremony is actually in my contract (plan B, we can take it out at any time) and it's 750.00. I'm glad I looked, because it also says 'clergy' $400.00, but I know that's only if I go with the on-site officiant.

Really? they don't get tipped? That surprises me.

$750 for the whole thing....or $750 plus the $400 for the officiant?

750+400

Re: Officiant.....Questions

We're paying 700 for ceremony site (fully decorated) and 400 for officiant. (which is put into our RH price) We were told by other brides who got married there that they tipped about $50.

I only spoke to our officiant over the phone but he came highly recommended by people at my RH and brides on this site (love you guys for all your input).

Just from our phone conversation I knew he would be perfect for us. We aren't religious, but both 'catholic' so we discusses our options and together came up with a perfect type of ceremony.

If we use the judge I will give a gift, not cash, because she isn't charging us...

Re: Officiant.....Questions

I would ask a few questions

1) What kind of pre-planning, counseling, etc is required?

2) Will we have to promise to raise our children in any specific faith?

3) Will we be able to work with you to customize our ceremony?

4) What type of ceremony do you specialize in?

5) How will you get to know, and us you, before the wedding?

6) What do you think makes a ceremony really special.

And then come with a list of aspects you want your ceremony to have and see if/how he or she could incorporate them.
